64 Galaxie,
« on: June 06, 2013, 06:11:25 PM »
If you squint and tilt your head a bit to one side you may be reminded of a certain drag week car.

I'm posting this as a startup to get the hang of the site.  This car is a study in good and bad pieces, it's been fun and I've looked at things I've seen and repaired with moderate disbelief along the way.  How about the fuel supply line half rubbed through because it was in contact with the #8 header tube?  Vapor lock, anyone?  The car is powered by a killer sounding 390.  The thing has the right parts the outside for a street 390, performer RPM intake, 750 Holley MSD 6AL ignition, hooker super competition headers (complete with the brass name tag!) and the like, but the internals are a mystery.

Not so mysterious is the sound of at least one rod looking for a bit less clearance at the journal.  I bought this car in South Carolina and I fully intend to get the 390 right.  On to tech later, right now I just want to see if this and the picture will post.

Thanks for the welcome.  The picture is a bit dated, I've since torched out the home made 1 ton front coils (changing 2 broken ball joints along the way) and replaced them with new non-A/C standard 64 FE front coils.  The car was a black on red 352 auto built in Atlanta, has been converted to 390 4 speed.  The interior is brand new, I think the previous owner just got discouraged chasing some of the gremlins that had to be hunted down and removed.

When I settle in I'm gong to decide which direction to take my rebuild, and the musings of the learned are appreciated.  I'm thinking of locating another 390 block and building it to drop in over the winter.  The stroker article in Car-Craft looks awfully attractive, but I'm also considering a 428 crank with an .060" overbore and the aluminum performer RPM heads as an option.  I intend to build a killer sounding street fighter, but I'm not going pinks either.  I like the pieces I've got (intake, carb, ignition, exhaust), think they are right for the FE and believe the .060" (safe?) overbore with the performer RPM heads and right cam will get me where I want to be, allowing me to re-use what I already have.  Thoughts on these possibilities are appreciated.

The nice thing about having one of these is that it's very likely you've got the only one on the block (or in town ), regardless of the color.  Your car looks great.  Mine was black from the factory with what I believe has been referred to as "Bordello red" interior (loved reading the drag week sagas!).

This is a great site, nosing around here over the past week has shown me that this is FE heaven.  I got a bit overzealous with the possibilities in my second post, but I believe I'm settled in now.  By the time I go building this fall I will be well equipped to make solid choices, and that's why I signed up.
