C4 tranny build specs behind a 445 FE
« on: June 11, 2014, 09:10:37 AM »
Hi all,
my 65 galaxie is moving toward completion.
diff installed last month. 3.89 true trac 31 spline.
next is to fit the motor and trans.
i have a 445 estimate 470 hp FE ready to go
and a little C4 tranny i picked up, have fitted new bellhousing to suit.
What do i have to do to the tranny for it to survive as a sunday driver with ocasional wednesday nights at the drags?
I have a bunch of info on how to do it and what to do from other sites, but where do i draw the line and what bits must i have? Hardened input shaft, deep pan. extra clutches??
Future plans involve a gearvendors overdrive and changing to 1350 unis if i need a new shaft.
Any advise be great.
thanks
joel

Opinions may vary but...... ;)

-If it's been rebuilt or has been run recently, I'd run it as is first maybe with a deep pan and a shift kit.  Keep in mind that even a stock C-4 will last unless it's abused and most street running would extend the life of even OEM stuff.
-if you do want to go through the entire unit now, then by all means add all the tricks you'd like.

I have had quite a few c4's that were newly rebuilt by professionals with just a shift kit.
They were behind small block 302's with around 320-340 hp in early mustangs.
Some developed I think it was 2nd gear shift flash quite early.
If I were going to do a C4 again I would build it with the Broader Performance 500 hp kit.
It's only $330.
