Update:

He drove it and says it revs like a small block. He says it is plumb wicked, the 12.50 street slicks go up in smoke. He is running a FiTech system, not sure which one.

Worthless without pictures....can't post one for some reason....

That gear box may have originally been installed in an IHC, a lot of them used a gear box in the front axle to drive the speedo. That eliminated the electric gear change box required with two speed axles. I seem to recall the early Ford Super Duties used the front axle also.

Mine has the complete gear set that you can attach a cable to, however the rear mount is in the way. I could have cut some out of it but just went with the main box. It is only accurate in direct.

I can't seem to post a picture of it.

That's interesting, we used the term in the log woods to reference any stick/limb that damaged your log truck. Usually occurred in a turn around. I had no clue that's where it originated from.

Cool rig! Since it is a C900 it should be gas powered, maybe 534. If it were a C9000, then it would be diesel powered, maybe 3208 Cat.

That is the old wedge lock style and they SUCK trying to pull out. I doubt you will have any issues at 500ftlb.

Smack the end of the axle flange with a good sized hammer, they will pop right out. Don't hit any of the studs, lol

Just doing a quick and dirty projection based on the 6.2L, this could be a 450hp/500lbft combo.  I saw a road test with a 2wd F250 that ran 14.6 with the 6.2L.  7.3 should scoot along pretty well

Probably will be more than one rating. Pretty sure it will be de-tuned when it goes in the 650-750 trucks.

There won't be a 390 or 428 CJ in that. It is likely a 351W or a 460. Might have an oil cooler and other cool bits.
According to the grille it is a 75-78, why wouldn't it have a 390?

I am thinking the Econoline didn't ever use an FE, but I am not sure.

I think most motorhome frame width (dually) is the same as Cab Chassis, standard 34". I think the F series 4x2 was the same until '73 and the 4x4 changed in '77.5.

Hauled off a Class A Dodge a couple of years ago. Rented a trailer for that one.

Was the front axle still under it, looks like the one I got my axle off of, Lol. I don't recommend using one for a transplant, they are weird built. The wishbone/knuckle is backward from a standard straight axle. The wishbone is on the axle...ya gotta drive them. I saw an article in a Trailer Life magazine about them, they wrote the reader that they were no good from the get go and about the only thing you can do to help them is use radial tires. I have 215/75x17.5, 16 ply on mine.

Heck yeah, the price is right. That would take pretty good sized trailer, I would assume they would want the tarps and pallets removed with it. Maybe you could stuff them inside so they wouldn't take up trailer room.  Too bad about your trailer and having to pass it up.

An old logger friend of mine had one of those old Dodges with a 413. He swapped in a Cummins and the old 1st gen 4 spd auto of the era and a 5831c aux like mine. It kept breaking flex plates tho, so he finally parked it and bought a newer more modern one, lol.

My old '70 F-100 had the dual master but no power booster so I installed one out of a '62 Mercury, excellent upgrade.
