Non-FE Discussion Forum / 5.0 camshaft question
« on: June 13, 2022, 03:37:20 PM »
I recently pulled a 5.0 from a wrecked mustang my uncle has had in his yard since the mid 90's. Car only had 32,000 miles on it. The machine shop said that the block looked good and to save some money we could use the factory forged pistons if I wanted. Being this is going in a 65 Falcon that will be driven a couple times a month I was good with that. I had a set of GT40 3 bar heads so I had those cleaned up and a valve job done on them and Comp 972 springs that the builder at the machine shop says will work with the cam he ordered me. Car has 3.73 gears and I've had the AOD from the mustang built. Will also be using the stock EFI setup. I can't find any cam off the shelf that has the same specs. The paperwork he gave me says Hydraulic Roller 270 advertised duration, .214/220 @ .050, 482/496 lift w/1.6, 512/527 lift w/1.7, 112 LSA. Since getting the cam and springs from him I have heard from several people that the builder has a less than desirable reputation. Does this sound like it will work for what I am doing and do the springs look like they will work?

Just saw an ad on facebook for Gerald Coon machining and selling new SOHC rockers. Any relation to Bill Coon?

FE Technical Forum / Advice needed on buying old core engines
« on: March 11, 2021, 11:47:27 AM »
We had a junkyard close a few years ago and I ran into the old owner yesterday. We got to talking about when I pulled a 390 s code intake, as a teen, and walked it up to the counter from the back of the yard and he gave it to me. Told me he figured I had worked hard enough for it. Then he brought up that he had three FE engines sitting in the barn at his house. He said he knows nothing about what they were pulled from but they have been in the barn since he was running the junkyard from his house, probably the mid-70's. He offered them to me for $400. I am going next week to check them out. What should I look for and does it seem like a good deal? I know there is a possibility I could end up with three 360's but beyond that would I be able to break even selling parts off of them? I don't have a use for them but would hate to see them meet the same fate as everything that was in the yard. It was all crushed and scraped.

Pulled these off of my 410 about a year ago. They are not in perfect shape but could be run as is on a driver. They have a few dents and the paint is not perfect as shown in the pictures. I painted them about a decade ago. Not sure of a value of them. Open to all offers. Buyer would pay whatever shipping comes out to. Located in south Ga.

FE Technical Forum / Weiand intake as a fuel injected intake
« on: November 14, 2020, 12:02:24 PM »
I recently ran across a guy claiming he has a weiand fe intake, that he welded injector bungs, years ago and I'm thinking about buying it off of him. From what I've read here, that intake is pretty much trash but would it react differently when used with sequential injection? I'm fairly knowledgeable using the early '90s mustang 5.0 system and I'm pretty sure I could set my 390 up with it fairly easily. It's not a monster by any means but it moves my 69 f100 around pretty good. It was a standard 360 block from the truck that I had machined and put in a 390 crank and rods with 1131H-030 pistons. The heads are c8ae-h that have CJ valves. Intake is a stock "s" code. I'm not looking for any more power necessarily but I don't want to lose power by going to that intake. Just really wondering if that intake might perform a little better using sequential injection but not hurt my setup. Thanks for any advice.
