Has anyone had any experience with this technology? It would be for only 6 of the same part - small tachometer base. Just curious on costs

I have a good sized 3D printer that I use all the time, and love it. You can buy one to print small parts for less than $1000. Use PLA filament, not ABS, because PLA doesn't shrink and warp like ABS does. The better printers have a heated bed, and will use the larger diameter (3mm) printer filament. My printer takes an STL file as an input, which kicks out pretty easily from a lot of 3D CAD programs; I use Solidworks, but cheaper programs work too.
The printers lay down material in thin layers, so be prepared with your print to have lines or layers visible in it.

I use 3D printing all the time at work and personally. I have several parts in my car including Gauge Mounts and a custom switch plate in place of where the ashtray was in the center console. A great supplier is Shapeways.com if you don't have access to a printer of your own. They have dozens of materials from cheap plastics (which are really very good) to exotic metals. The only thing you have to be able to do is send them a 3D model of part you want. The whole process is online, very simple and surprisingly cheap.

I can second the Shapeways deal. I've had them print me several stainless parts with good results. They're pretty easy to deal with so far and their prices are sure reasonable. I have access, for now, to 3D printing plastics so I have not used them for that.

I agree with the suggestions above. Shapeways is a quality vendor. I use 3d cad software everyday. If you need the parts drawn let me know and I will do them at no cost. Then you can sent them to Shapeways or whoever for quoting.

I need the plastic trunk emblem insert for a '66 7 Litre. Mine is broken into two pieces.

Yes that's what I need. Mine is broken, almost down the middle, and faded so the color is is only black and gray.

I'm not sure that part can be printed and look good. I would buy one like the one in the ebay listing. I think you will much happier with the outcome.
