Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe that Ford has ever fused starter circuits? With a trunk mounted battery, that might require a fuse.

Normal Ford starter current draw can be 200 to 250 amps, and more in freezing weather.

I have gone to Walmart for all of my lead-acid batteries - their $140 24F EverStart Maxx has a free replacement 3 year warranty:

If someone wanted to avoid the "modern" electric fan radiator cooling application, Ford's OEM plan in the 1960's was a thermal clutch fan (usually included with air conditioning). Finding a blade to match might be a problem, but any local automotive A/C service shop should be able to supply a set.

Best chance for any number tracing might be an O.S.I. book (not sure when Ford started issuing them).

Local to me (one mile from my house) is the TorqStorm Superchargers shop. They build their S/C's in house, and offer single and dual mounts. They are street oriented, not really meant for any racing applications:

"TorqStorm Superchargers® is a rapidly growing, popular supercharger for the average individual looking to make a significant horsepower and torque gain with their vehicle.

Capable of flowing 1250cfm, Torqstorm Superchargers® are able to support over 700hp individually, and over 1200hp with our Twin Supercharger kits!!

Self contained oil system, straight cut gears, ceramic ball bearings, 8 blade 75 mm billet impeller, and 3/4″ thick mounting brackets. We are able to provide you one of the most brute, forceful, and efficient superchargers on the market."

I have an FE in my 1979 F-150 4x4. Hedman headers - Ford starter.

If my starter died, I would replace it with the RobbMc I have had sitting on a shelf for 10+ years.

I would like to hear from anyone who thinks that a Powermaster is better than a RobbMc.

I always keep a closed system, by using a coolant recovery tank, and matching coolant recovery radiator cap.

Engine operating temperature is closely related to cylinder wall wear (among other variables):

No one has mentioned the Doug Nash 5 Speed, or the $4,000 Richmond Gear Super Street 5-Speed?

My Sad Sack version:

My 1979 (special ordered new) F-150 4x4 / short wheelbase Styleside / NP435 / 4.11 Detroit Locker / 428 / Black Jack headers / FE rear sump 4x4 pan / modified Ford windage tray, requires engine removal for bottom end block service.

Pulled engine for a new rubber rear main seal (with nails). Trouble, frustration, impatience, but I got-er-dun. Reinstalled, started up, stream of oil running on the ground!

Pulled engine again - you guessed it - seal was in backwards! Grrr!

FE Technical Forum / Re: Ultrasonic cleaning machine recommendation?
« on: March 09, 2023, 09:58:04 PM »
Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions.

I found a local used commercial tank on craigslist for $500 (it retailed new for ~$3,000), but it was sold (the seller forgot to take the ad down).

I am not in a hurry, so I will be looking for a used commercial cleaner.

All of the cleaners on Amazon are Chinese imports, and have many bad reviews. Like many current electronic devices, they are throw-away appliances, with non-existant repair after a failure.

I did not see any commercial/brand name/USA cleaners on Amazon.

The commercial cleaners claim to have much better transducers - at $3,000 and up, they should!

FE Technical Forum / Ultrasonic cleaning machine recommendation?
« on: March 02, 2023, 12:49:21 PM »
I have been looking to purchase an ultrasonic cleaning machine. I would like to get one deep and wide enough to immerse a Holley 4V baseplate.

I've been reading reviews for over one year. There are so mostly models made in China, and the reviews all seem to be from fake corporate sponsored ads.

I am thinking that I will need a 1 to 2 gallon reservoir, in a more or less square configuration. My budget is in the $100 to $200 range. I would prefer a US made commercial model, but they can be very expensive.

My main concern is to find a reliable, long lasting model. I am hoping that someone on here can recommend a model or manufacturer.

It sounds like this Y-block is getting close to an maximum, all-out build?

What do you think would be a max-effort? More RPM with an even bigger cam? 700 horsepower? Supercharging?

Notes from below the video that some of you missed:

Using 22 different archived videos spliced together this video depicts the Model A engine being produced, from sand molds to being dropped in a chassis. Every Model A engine destined for one of Ford's 30+ US assembly plants was cast and assembled at the Rouge Plant in Dearborn, MI.

Make sure to look out for the main bearing babbitts being poured, the flywheel being balanced, and the manifolds being assembled.
