Title: WANTED: Longshot - internally balanced 3.98 crank or 11 inch 428 flywheel
Post by: My427stang on June 08, 2012, 09:53:05 AM
Understand odds are against me, but does anyone have an internally balanced 428 crank left over from an old project?

Considering using one in my 390, hoping one of the big inch guys outgrew one.

The other alternative is a used 428 flywheel for an 11 inch clutch if any used are out there, then I could use a local crank.

This wont be a big power motor, low 400's, so considering some options.  trying to keep this 390 as low budget as possible

Your best bet is a new flywheel from Ford racing. With an online code for 5% off and free shipping from CJ pony parts it comes to $273. That is what I ended up doing. Everyone wants 175 to 200 for a crusty old 428 flywheel that then needs surfaced, so its cheaper to get a new billet one. It ac.cepts both clutch sizes. Part # ends in p428

Thanks, I think I am going to just zero deck the 390.

Although I'd really like to stick a 428 crank in this motor, for a 400 hp motor, not sure the cost of crank/flywheel and balancing is worth the gain over the pistons.
