« on: October 01, 2023, 10:33:11 AM »
will the transmission fit without tunnel modifications. car is a 1988 tbird. guys with foxbody experience tell me the tbird floor pan is different than the mustangs. i want to retain the floor pan with minimal modification as i want to drive the car on the street. thanks.

Here's the dimensions of the 6R80. I'm guessing the '88 T-Bird would have come with an AOD. If you have that trans laying around you could compare dimensions. Remember that the FE to 6R80 adaptor thickness needs to be considered.

yea i still have the motor and transmission. it was a v6 car with some sort of automatic. i can use that transmission to measure from. still working on the power brake delete than forward to engine and transmission installation. probably need to construct some frame connectors first. the floor pan is different than a mustang so anything aftermarket for a mustang will need modified. this is a slow go project for me. engine is almost completed. if car needs to much interior modification to the tunnel i may just go with a coyote swap and put the FE 427 stroker in a pickup. just seems alot easier but i still want the overdrive transmssion. thanks.

You might consider some K member spacers. They allow the motor to sit lower in the body giving more room for the trans. Also allows for more hood clearance and a better angle on the motor. Have used up to 1 1/2 with no problems...probably could have gone thicker. You will need adjustable coil overs for desired ride height.
