Speedmaster 427 block
« on: August 28, 2021, 10:56:58 PM »
Any of our pros hear of a new Speedmaster 427 block that is almost a dead ringer for a BBM? Pictures got posted on FB earlier today and are now gone, but supposedly the price is $2400. Didn’t see the Speedmaster that was supposedly cast on the block but there were visual differences from BBM… is a $1600 discount worth the risk of a Speedmaster block?

No, it's not.

I would consider the BBM block to be one of the pinnacles of aftermarket FE blocks.

I would consider Speedmaster to be one of the lowest quality brands in all of aftermarket engine parts.  Not only does the quality stink, but the morals/ethics also stink.  They have made a living of copying good, high-quality, name-brand stuff, such as CHI, MSD, Comp Cams, Edelbrock, etc.

I don’t know, the pictures were blurry but there were definitely small differences from any other aftermarket block I have seen. Guess time will tell.

I should have taken a screenshot, but didn’t. There were I think 3 pictures, each somewhat blurry, enough that you couldn’t see details. Original poster seemed to be evading answering questions. The post then disappeared.

Hey Brent , this is from Speedmaster , seems like they’re from Australia and make their own parts

Speedmaster has become a leader in its field, built on a long term consistency of being a specialist in aftermarket automotive components. The team has shared all the finest moments in the numerous accolades for its people, its products, and its approach. Speedmaster is also one of the rare companies to produce its own products, where majority items are entirely developed and manufactured in its workshops. The ultimate token of precision, Speedmaster is the world’s only major parts manufacturer to equip cars from Standard replacement to Top Fuel Dragsters.

In 1979, the company was founded with Pete’s Performance, which was a small speed workshop. It began by building engines for customers as a hobby, and it has now grown to include selling, assembling, manufacturing and racing high performance engine parts. Over the years, the company has grown into a worldwide high performance powerhouse. Growing from a one-man bricks-and-mortar business; to now a supply chain in which en

They apparently build cars too

Don’t think they’re the same company, that Stevens guy copied Edelbrock. Who in their right mind would copy Edelbrock nowadays?

Take a look at the part number on that 351 block you linked. Is MPN: PCE286.1049 you know what the PCE stands for? Pro Comp Electronics. About 10 -15 years ago Procomp started selling the heads, blocks, cranks, etc... under the Speedmaster name and sold the distributors and other electronics under the Pro comp electronics name. Looks like they pretty much have stopped selling anything under the Procomp name as I see now the dizzys are Speedmaster too.  Anyway believe what you want.

They may have some tie to Australia and I think they may even have an office in CA, but their parts are all made in China.   Speedmaster = Procomp.

As for Stevens copying Edelbrock, he did it a long time ago when Edelbrock was more mainstream for FE stuff.  I think Barry confirmed that ProMaxx has that design now.
