Port Matching question....
« on: November 14, 2023, 01:32:09 PM »
So I was browsing thru some photos I took when I replaced my intake gaskets on my 427 a couple of months ago. And realized that I didn't even notice the mismatch between the gasket and intake ports as I was in a hurry just to get it done and back together. It's currently making just under 500 hp.

Now in retrospect, I'm wondering how much of a actual difference it would actually make. A couple of hp / ft lbs of tq? More? Less?

If there is any actual gain to be had I guess I'll have to keep it in mind the next time it's apart.

Photos for reference.

Were you the one on the other forum that asked a similar question?

If not, it won't make enough difference to justify pulling it off and changing gaskets.   If you were to port the entire intake, plenums and all, balance the runners, etc., then you'd probably notice a bump.

What intake manifold are you asking the question about?  Makes a bit of difference due to the dual plane vs single plane vs aftermarket.  Joe-JDC

Intake is a tunnel wedge with dual 600's

On the tunnel wedge, if you open it up to the MR gasket size it will promptly lose 20 lbft torque.  A slight clean up of the flashing but not opening up the port will net only a few hp.  BTDT and lost because the Ford TW flows 380-390 cfm as cast.  The TFS TW flows over 400 cfm as cast.  Joe-JDC
