Title: What Do You Think Of My $50 1966 F-250?

I saw this truck March 2019 but didn't get in contact with the owner till July 2019. Wish I had pursued it sooner. Judging by the interior I say this is original mileage. Truck was free and I paid $50 for the unstuck but unidentified 1971 FE. Here are some photos of when I found it.


EDIT: It is a 3.78 stroke!

Problem is this is what the truck looked like in July 2019. Still plenty of good parts considering. A close up of the interior now. The seat has a burn hole from the chop job. Going by the condition and last picture here it looks like the original owner was a little more attentive to it.

The door sills and the cab mounts looked better than average. I would have tried building a retractable roof. I've always thought that would have been a cool option for 60's pickups.

Yeah I am cutting the driver rear corner and cab mounts off. The roof is donated to undo a sunroof I installed in the 65 F-100 around 1990. It has factory two speed wipers and factory emergency flasher. Plan on using the rubber floor mat in my 65 F-250. The 63 F-600 could use the doors and seat.

I liked the old contractor box. The whole truck would have made a neat resto-mod. Put it back to work. Heck... it could have been put back to work the way it was. Good advertisement for a small business. It's cool you have plans for some of the parts. Your roof project will be a challenge.

The '64 F-250 cab that I cut up to fix the floor/cab mounts in the '62 F-100 was an oddball one. It was a Custom Cab with factory A/C. Camper Special with an automatic tranny. The trans tunnel cover didn't have any holes for shifters.

My uncle had that same exact truck 20 years ago. Contractor box and everything. He put a hopped up 428 cobra jet in it, said it would blow the doorhandles off of a 5.0 Mustang. Pretty good for an unassuming work truck.

My original plan was to use the truck around Roswell and only drive my other 65 back and fourth to Waco when I needed to haul something. Making the 1,200 mile round trip once a month it pays to use an extra car that gets 34 mpg.

Dang, that is a haul.  Going to have to google that route LOL.  Guess you either come by here on I-20 or take the "southern route" through Brownwood on 84.  For you folks from smaller states, 80% of that is in Texas LOL.  That drive from Post past Plains going west is the dictionary version of "desolate country".

It probably seems like driving through Manhattan  (NYC one, not Kansas) compared to many of the routes through Nevada and Wyoming. I'm sure people in the east have no idea it is possible to be more than 100 miles from the nearest person.

Every once in a while I take 84 out of Waco to Post. Usually take 6 from Waco to Eastland and get on I-20. If you follow the suggested speed limits and stop once for gas it is about a 7½ hour drive.

Tatum to Roswell is a desolate stretch. Vaughn to Roswell is 101 miles gas pump to gas pump. I have been through parts of Utah and Nevada but the greatest distance between pumps that comes to mind was South Dakota. Staying on the Interstate it seems it was 218 miles between pumps. If there were other towns or stations hidden in the corn fields I didn't see them.

Did Ford put a removable plate in the tunnel to adjust the band? 65-66 Twin I-Beam trucks have them.
