Jay, go for it!

Get that Facebook page too and link it here and to other Ford Forums. It's painless, trust me, and you will get lots of free 'Net ink! Woo-Hoo!

Jay did you send (video/picture) documentation of your FORD GT at Drag Week?....
Previous Owner & National Attention (not to mention Winning Class) I'd have thought would be a shoe in.... Only making 500 I believe they stated - so that's a small pie to spread around.

I did not send a video, but I mentioned the win at Drag Week and the car's appearance in Hot Rod magazine, and also (believe it or not) in Diesel Power magazine.  Also sent links to the web site and my Drag Week 2006 blog, and assorted pictures.  I had to throw it all together at the last minute because I'd been spending a fair amount of time with my wife, who was in the hospital for a stretch, and didn't really want to think about anything else...

My understanding is that a large Facebook profile was important to the people deciding who got the cars.  I have ZERO Facebook profile; I don't care for that site.  If that's what it took, then I had no chance from the start.

From your above comment, I take it that your wife had some sort of health issue. Without any sort of intent to get into your business, I hope everything's now good. I believe prayers are always appropriate in such circumstances and you folks have mine.

I think you'd be a good one to select for a new one but I guess "the team" at Ford didn't agree.  I almost bought one of the GT's back in '06...they had one on the showroon floor at the local dealer...marked up 100K.  I told them I'd buy it for MSRP but they wouldn't budge.  It was there to bring in traffic so if they were going to sell they were going to make a nice profit.  They sold it after about a year for right around the sticker, but by then I wasn't interested.

I bet you're kicking yourself now. You couldn't get one today for sticker if you sold your first born as part of the payment. A typical GT goes for $300k now, a rare version (Tungsten or Heritage edition) will go for $400K+. A delivery miles only GT, of any option, will go for high $300k too.

Actually....yeah, I look back now and think what a dumbass I was for not buying it.  But it's not the worst mistake I've made.....

That's a serious prediction. My crystal ball tells me that these cars will take a big hit in resale value in 2 years, languish there in the 200K to 300K range (depending on condition ) for about 2-5 years, then slowly creep up with inflation until 2026, then take off when they are rediscovered.

Only time will tell.

True, only time will tell. If it does drop to $200-300k, there will be a lot of people buying them as investments. The 500 unit production run is what tells me that the new GT will never fall below list price.

Now they are doubling the production, adding another 500 cars. With the original limit gone, how many who wanted one due to the scarcity will now take a wait and see attitude?  Definitely a recipe for depreciation in the next few years.

It will still be a ultra-rare car at 1,000 units. Heck, they could sell 2,000 GT's for $400k and it would still be a rare car that holds its value. Look at the LaFerrari, Carrera GT, 918 Spider, F1, P1, any Koenigsegg, Pagani or Bugatti, etc. They all hold their value, and always will, due to their scarcity and sex appeal. And the GT has loads of sex appeal and has always pulled off being rare, even at 4,000 units. If I was a banker and someone with a decent financial ability applied for financing for a GT, I'd approve it even if there was a chance I'd have to reposes the car. Actually, I'd secretly want that to happen, so when I sell the car at auction I'd make more than the car loan. The new GT is about as solid of an investment as you can come by these days. The banks that stay on top of the car world know it, and will fund rather unknown (in terms of resale value) vehicles like the McLaren P1. 10 years after this new GT is no longer made, I see it trading hands above $1M. Worst case scenario, the new GT never drops below list price. Ever. Should it happen, anyone with the means and half a brain should buy said car immediately because the market won't stay that way.
