FE Technical Forum / No stroker for me

I have inspected my blocks and
no one is stroker material as i
see it and i want an engine for
the summer
stroker have to wait till i find a
block
So now i will rebuild my original
PI for the Galaxie
its bored 0.60 and sonic 0.100
in some spots .
The cyls are god so just a hone
and new rings
with one combination of heads i have
and the 10 cc dish pistons thats
in the block i get 10.5 ish C/R
if i take the block down to zero
and 0.040 gasket

with the cams i thinking about
comp cams  282S or 294S i get
dynamic C/R of 8.3 and 7.9.
We got 98 oktan in the pumps
here in sweden how much dynamic
C/R can that take

The heads are C1AE-A with CJ valves
and some cleanup porting  Streetmaster
intake  cast factory shorty headers
carb 750-780?? EFI later
I guess i will get Close to 400 hp ???
atleast with the 294s

Do any one know if the 400m have the same
engine mounts as the smallblock/Cleveland
I have oportunity to trade a 400 i have for a
410 FE. But to reach the 400 i have to shovel
a lot of snow i front of the barn i have stored
it in. And move a lot of good to have parts
just to see what kind of mounts it have.
Or better if any one can tell what it takes
to swap the 400 in place of the 410
 in a 64 Mercury

Just a question about starters
Does the newer starter that
push out the gear fits a 64 FE
i now have the older type that
pull in the gear and it needs rebuilding
but i got several of the newer typ
on the shelf
I dont remember but i think i mounted
newer starters on older engines before
I gues i can test fit one but easier to ask ;D ;D

Well the winter is here, Cold darknes and snow. So whats better
than hide in the shop and tear in to a couple of FE,s i have
and sonic test the blocks. To see wich one if  any to use for
a stroker engine. ;D
Started monday morning cleaning up the shop. By 10 a clock
i had to take the wife to hospital 50 miles away.Home at 16
a clock then my stepson call.

 His car wont start so his girlfriend
is stranded with it ::) -22 deg celsius go there tow it home to me
The distcap is bad ther rotor is bad the plugs well,,,, Everything
is closed by now but a gasstation have plugs no rotor or cap
put in new plugs and it starts but die give it a shot of eter and
it runs but die soon...hmm no fuel ,,,

Tuesday morning tried to buy fuel filter,cap and rotor  nope
not in stock :o.Come on its not a duesenberg its a freaking
Mercedes 190 from the 90s the roads is ful of them >:( no
not in stock but can have them by wendsday.

I go home make some coffe. Feels a litle chilly inside the house.
Well the screw that feeds the boiler with pellets have stoped
starts it up ewerything seems fine and boiler is running
Ahhh coffe break at last  :P SQEEEK SQQRRROIINGS.
What the hell :o  runns down the basement
the screw is stopped again

Allright get out the tools and tear it down and find a knife in it :o >:( >:( :o

Wensday cleaned the shop organised tings nice and trowed a lot of junk

Today wife still in hospital. I pack a suitecase with clothes for here
and go 50 miles open the trunk and :o :o :o :o :o ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
I left  the damed suitcase in the hallway :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
Well spent a couple of hours with her. Starts the car to go home
lights on, seat heater on, heaterfan on full,then i have it warm and cosy . Abs light on?, all indicator lights on?
Tach jumping all over the scale? ??? ??? ??? ??? Mmmmmm nice >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( alternator gone bad
Its dark its -26 celsius i have 45 miles home. Call my dad to come and
meet me with a fresh batery along the way. If i drive 50 mph i get
heat inside the car without fan but i can only drive 30 mph in the dark
without lights ::).Managed to get to the only gasstation on the route
where the car dies. Fine gasstations have spareparts right?? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nooooooooo but they got hotdogs, bananas, beer,pornmags, ??? ??? ??? ???
but well and behold they got 3 dusty batterys on the bottom shelf, final sale
buy a batt. Ask the girl behind the counter if she got any tools,,,,,,,yeah,,,,
But she was wery BLOND and wery beautyful
I have a carpenters hammer  in the car :) :) :) :)useful to many tasks
now im home 2 batts later
To late to get an alternator and i gues i have to order it and wait
till after the weekend
And the wifes suitcase is stil in the hallway i gues she have to wear
the granny panties the hospital provide ower the weekend ;D ;D

30 years ago i could have bought all the parts i needed this week
at any gasstation of the grumpy old man in coverall behind the counter

Now im the grumpy old man and Blondie peddling hotdogs and pornmags

Long time since i worked on a rear end so
i dont remember. In a 9 inch rearend can you
replace a 2.72-2.82 or around there that i have
with a 4.10 -4.56 or do i have to replace the
differental(Ford Factory LSD) .I remember you have to do it
on brand x differentials.
And who makes high quality streetgears today
i rather pay more and get something thats last
than cheap junk thats start howling like a horny dog

I have a bunch of new mallory unilite distributors
i bought years ago. Anyone out there know the
pn for FE dist. or where i can get some info on
Pn so i can identify what distributors i have.

They had a real bad reputation around here
Is there any thruth in that or is it owner malfunction
many of them is stripped off the infrared eye
and thats whats rumored to stop working.
I have never runned one so i dont know

Hi
I havent worked on the FE engine since the 80s
and have a couple of questions
I have some C4AE-C and C1AE-A in the 80s
the word was there were equal to Cobrajet heads
with CJ valves installed but smaller cambers.
Dont know if thats true .Is it wort the trouble and
money today  or should i just buy new heads
I have a 390 PI thats bored .060 are going to
sonic the block but i suspect some of the bores is
flexing.How thick  cylwhals do you need ?

I got some other FE blocks,probably 390s  is there any better than
others or is they about the same
Im going to buy a stroker kit from survivalmotorsport
if not the shiping to sweden totaly kill my wallet
O''r i have to go there and cary it home in suitcases
