Private Classifieds / Wanted: Header Flanges
« on: October 11, 2022, 03:29:10 PM »
I thought before I go online and shop, I'd see if anyone had any unwanted, unused header flanges with or for 2" starter tubes for Edelbrock heads? Let me know if you've got anything that you want to unload.

Time to get back on my Comet project.

Thanks,

Non-FE Discussion Forum / CalTrac rear bracket '66 Fairlane
« on: October 01, 2022, 12:38:32 PM »
19 years ago I made a copy of a popular traction bar. In 2005 I got a call from them and my fingers slapped so let's not focus on that :-)

I picked up a CalTrac set up for a '66 Fairlane minus the round bars and rod ends. That is as far as I know? So today I thought I'll install the real deal. Well I notice my 9" spring perches are too wide for the CalTrac back brackets. The U-bolt side to side dimensions are far off. You can see my brackets I've had on for 19 years and CalTracs. Does the CalTrac kit normally come with a narrow spring perch to weld on? I'm not sure why the CalTrac bracket is so narrow? Thoughts from those who may have a set?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Calvert U-bolts size vs. '66 9" small bearing axle
« on: September 17, 2022, 11:20:12 AM »
I asked Calvert which of their U-bolts to use. They mentioned the 2.75 I.D. for my '66 Fairlane 9" axle housing. So I have them and just checking. This is the housing where the tubes neck down to the small axle bearing. The housing at that end measures 2.810". The U-bolts are 2.770 I.D. Are they to fit nicely over the axle tube or are you to spread the u-bolt slightly or tap it over? The next size is 3" and would seem sloppy?

So I'm going to set my valves per the EVO/IVO method per Brent Lykins. On my Harland-Sharp rockers I have loosened the lock nut and retracted the adjuster almost out of the rocker body. I'm going to set everything from scratch. Should I start with the firing order and run the adjuster into the push rod cup and set them one at a time? Seems when ever I took off the rocker shaft assembly in the past and put it back on and keeping  the adjusters still set from when they came off, I was torqueing the stand nuts against the valve spring tension which I'm sure flexes the shaft as I do so? Is this a bad practice? Should you always retract the adjusters each time you have the shaft assembly off the engine?

Thanks!

I've set my valve lash using this I downloaded years ago from Net54 fordFE.com.

Does it hold true on other cams with "bigger specs"? My card:

If I set lash using the chart and later check the gap by running through the firing order one cylinder at a time it seems I get a slightly different gap. But if I set and check per the chart using the sequence above it's right on at .026 each time. Does the sequence chart set lash at a different place on the lobe than setting each cylinder at a time? I hope I'm making sense? FYI - I'm getting no wear on lobes or anything.

I have a very faint squeal, howl, whatever you call it coming from around the #3 or #4 cylinder. It is very faint but I don't recall hearing it before. I have Lunati rollers lifter installed. It's a '66 427 solid lifter block so the only oiling is splash. The sound is a revolution type sound and the only revolving parts are the lifter roller. The noise sounds close to the valve cover. I keep asking myself would it be the roller on the lifter despite being shielded deeper in the engine? Not sure what I'm asking, just opening the discussion.

I have the Fairlane Club National Meet coming up in two weeks. The one activity I'll probably drive it. I expect to put about 75 miles on it. So it's not coming apart until after then. I just put over 200 miles going to Carlisle two weeks ago so I'm not too concerned at the moment.

Here is the Lunati lifters I use.

I did the deadly sin last year. I only had Right Stuff available at the time. Also there was a post I was part of on a similar topic but can't find it. So sorry for the repeat question.

Any tips on popping of an intake sealed with Right Stuff? I also have a thin smear around all ports. I have a nice grove under the front on the intake. I was able to get under there with a curved carpet blade and pull out most of the sealant. I'm just not comfortable with prying on the intake at the front left corner. It get thin around the distributor opening. Heads and intake are aluminum so I'm trying to not gouge everything up.

The pry bar is just a little thin thing used to also clean the gap. It bends too easily anyway. I'll wait for advice before I pull out the large pry bars.

"Doug, I appreciate your concerns regarding the social media platforms and rumors on  those venues. There are a couple things going on that have lead lead to the rumors of F.P.A.  Ford headers.   # 1. "Stan's Headers" in Auburn Wa. , about 20 miles from us, has in fact closed, owner retired,  and the operation liquidated by auction. Although at one time, Stan's headers did build some Ford headers for us under an exclusive contract, we ( FPA) have not had any relationship for aprox 3 years now. It's easy to see the  confusion because we both have the same first name, Stan ! So, all is well here with FPA Ford headers excluding the fact that there simply is no available labor pool to draw on and the supply chain of materials has made things more of a challenge than ever before. We are backlogged 12 + weeks currently with over 150 sets on order.
It's been 37 years now since I started F.P.A and I have been proud to serve my fellow Ford enthusiasts. It's been a dedication I've never regretted. We clearly offer some Ford header options that you can't get anywhere else. My Wife had told me that my headstone should read, ( So where you going to get your Ford Parts now ?? Feel free to share this .
All the best,

Stan   F.P.A"

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Looking for a quality portable torch
« on: January 06, 2022, 10:47:17 AM »
For reasons I've never obtained a cut-off torch. So that answer is currently out of the question. Is there a good portable torch that can generate adequate heat when working on things with "stuck" or "rusted" parts? I have the old hand held Benzo.... torch with the blue propane bottles. I've never looked but is there something portable like that but a little more heat?

I'm working on my '93 beater Ranger pickup and need to heat up the pinch bolt and the spindle for removal. I don't want to sit there all day holding a torch with barely enough heat to melt plastic.

Thanks,

I have a Granada front disc brake set up on my Fairlane. Been working great for years so no need to change it. I installed a ’89 Ranger manual disc/drum master cylinder with the upgrade. I recently picked up some aftermarket rear disc brakes. The current distribution block is a late 60’s Torino unit. I bought new from Dearborn about three years ago.

My question, do I need an adjustable proportioning valve as I replace my rear drums with discs? I’m getting confusing results with my internet searches.

As I understand the prop valve only adjusts the rears (if needed), correct?

Thanks!

FE Technical Forum / Any issue changing over to aluminum ATI balancer?

I have a Professional Products balancer on my 427. I've come across an ATI SFI aluminum hub balancer? Any issue doing a straight swap?
