engine oil 482 solid roller first start

what is a good oil to start with i was suggested to run high zinc 40 mineral oil.

I used Brad Penn/PennGrade break in oil.  It's 10W30.  This was for breaking in a hydraulic flat tappet cam.  I would think you would have more leeway with a roller, so you might be okay with Valvoline VR1, which for me is cheaper and available nearby at NAPA.  Comes in 10W30 and various straight weights.

I don't have bearing clearances at the moment i can find out. Camshaft 258 264 @50 T&D Race rockers morel solid roller lifters bbm iron block 11.2 to 1 comp. Use will be limited street use with the odd track run. Lifter oil is restricted as per you suggested Brent.

I personally don't use break-in oils for roller camshafts. 

If the bearing clearances are .003" or under, I'd fill it full of VR1 10W-30 and roll.

Cheers people for the info got another question what spark plug temp do you think i should try first? our unleaded pump fuel is 98 octane here

I would start with a 3923 Autolite and see if that’s cool enough.

You can take Brents advice to the bank every time , never steered me wrong & I never spent a dime with him yet .I bben using Valvoline since before they called it VR1, its the best in my opionion.

Brent has helped me a bunch before and after buying parts pretty sure he gets life long customers once they start talking to him. Shame that can be hard to find these days we need more like that.

I may have missed it somewhere, but are you using iron or aluminum heads? If you're not a huge Autolite fan like me, you can try a #8 heat range NGK. It would be plenty safe, even on an N/A race application. I am running the #7 heat range in mine with 12.5:1 static/ 8.99:1 dynamic and 33° total with my chamber and it is more than happy on AV gas. If it is somewhat tame, the #6 heat range may also work. Good luck.

BBM cnc heads 2.250 intake 1.710 exhaust valves  i am 8.49 to 1 dynamic that should be a good place to be in for fuel i will be using if there is probs with fuel and i need to use a race fuel or AV gas or have to run less timing ill put lumpy pistons in and go 14 to 1 the way i look at that is if you need a non pump gas fuel why not make it go like it should.

I like your thinking. 8)  If you choose the NGK, the #7 heat range would work well. Part# 4091 or R5671A-7. The last digit of the long # for NGK is the heat range. 12 is the coldest.

Not to get off topic, but to those who mentioned AV fuel, I am assuming Aviation fuel, a word of warning, even though it's  a higher octane fuel, it's still not the best fuel to run in our motors.
 First off, Airplane motors are low compression, and second AV fuel has chemical additives, such as de-iceing agents for high altitude. The ones who run it, notice the white soot tailpipes ?
For me, it's not worth it to cheap out on fuel to save a few bucks, after the money I have in my motor, just saying.

I haven't seen any white soot. I haven't heard of any one else that I can think of, either. I currently have turndowns right after the mufflers, because I haven't made a set of tailpipes yet, but the inside is spotless. Further up the pipes, and in the collectors, the color is a nice light gray. Tells me it has a pretty good burn. I do also add a very small amount of fuel stabilizer like Marvel Mystery Oil to lubricate the cylinder. I have heard the AV gas is a bit "dry".
