In my opinion it's little spendy, running 429 available 50 miles south of me for 500 and he's been sitting on it quite a while

If you are wanting to build a hemi then all you need is a block so this is not a good deal in my opinion.
By the time you buy this for $1700 and another $700 for machine work to get the block ready to run you
are going to have a lot of cash just in an old block. The other parts are almost worthless except for the heads.
460 blocks can be had cheap or just buy a Ford Racing 460 block and forget dealing with all this old beat up stuff.
Sometimes it's just not worth the effort.

my 2 cents

Some call that a 2 bolt CJ block with the thick main webs, same block they used for four bolt mains. Great candidate for converting to 4 bolt mains. They can usually be bored to 4.44 pretty safely. Sonic check would be good idea. Even with 2 bolt mains, those blocks can take a ton of power.
The 385 series 429 cast cranks are stronger than Kryptonite. You can offset grind them to BB Chev rod journal and get some stroke out of them. You will never hurt one.
Heads are early screw in rocker stud versions and can be cleaned up to make very decent power, converted to standard screw in stud/guide plate valve train. Originally used a rail tip rocker with no guide plates. They have small chambers. The 4V flat top piston 429 was 10.7:1 cr. Usually 72-76cc.
Rods are broached/shoulder cut versions, not CJ. Nothing special there.
Intak gaskets look like FE TP gaskets...

What he has there worth about $400. DOVE-A only better than any other block if you want to add 4 bolt mains as it is easier to do. Heads you have $1k in them by time get good valves, springs, good valve job, hardened exhaust seats, etc... crank worth scrap. Cheaper get a 460 as a lot more 460 pistons theses days.

If you could get it cheap that would make a great engine for a 78 F-150 or Bronco.
Throw a 460 crank in it which is cheap.
Tons of torque and very reliable and nothing fancy needed to make it work.

I just saw this the other day and was wondering if this is a good deal. Your opinions are appreciated. In other words, what's the "good" the "bad" and the "ugly?" I'm thinking "hemi"   https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-429-DOVE-BLOCK-VIRGIN-ENGINE-BLOCK-CAST-DOVE-AWITH-EXTRAS/173094604620?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3Da8ad43db09664c9fb5758e7c9390f5c6%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D251218570786&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Thank You!

Thank You everybody for your advice, I'm going to pass.

I agree a bit on the too expensive side.

However this particular DOVE-A block does have the Boss 429 bulkheads. Take a look at the pics.

Cheers

Good eye. For someone looking for one, this block could be worth some $.
