The 68....back from paint

Finally got the 68 back from paint.Rotisserrie and metal work by me.Painted by the same shop (Sharp Touch Restorations) who painted my little 67 T/A replica...
Long list of NOS sheet metal on the car..
Owned the car since I graduated it 77.Been powered by a 1965 427 since 1988.
Between this,the 66 Fastback 428CJ project and my Grizzly Truck it will be a busy year...

Hey Doug...the car was black when I bought it but still had its lovely ivy gold interior.Its original color is that lovely sea foam green or what ever its called.When I first redid the car in 81 I was going to paint it some shade of metallic gray.The shop owner (my cousin) told me to F-off its going black again...I added the stripes in 82/83 and the were basically the skunk stripes.This time round I have the 67 Super Snake stripes...

It is a huge amount of work to own a black car.On this car I wouldn't have it any other way...The color draws them over and then they see the 427...

Nice! Hey, black ain't that bad but I'll admit that's why I have silver grocery-getters as here in Chicago they hardly ever show dirt. You're lucky though you don't live in Georgia where that red clay shows up on everything but red vehicles!

Awesome !!! is all I can say !! I bet it feels really good to have it back in the garage and ready to assemble. All your hard work shows in that beautiful finished product. My first 67 Mustang fastback is originally Raven Black and when it is ready I plan to put it back that way. I am starting with black epoxy, black polyester primer, the "purest" black basecoat, two coats of black tinted clear, & three coats of glamour clear. Should be black enough...

Looks beautiful, nothing like black when its clean. The green color you were looking for is called lime gold, good luck you got alot of eggs in the basket

Thanks Guys...I don't have a time frame on the assembly (although I have started)It will be done when its done.Weather still sucks here so indoors I stay..
Everything was prefit to the car so its pretty much just anal assembly work
Correct Stangman....Marti report says it was Lime Gold Paint.
When I get all this stuff finished I will slow down(ya right) and finish my Diamond T..

Any thoughts on putting the same gold stripe on the rocker panels?

IIRC, Jay had the same dilemma on his blue-green-ish Shelby clone.

It's not the dirt on black that I don't like, it's the constant battle with swirl marks and hazing. After a good polish, it only lasts until the first time it's washed or wiped down. 
Still, nothing looks as good as black and gold. And I can tell with the reflections that it's super straight. That takes time...lots of it. And wet sanding...lots of it

As the owner of a gloss black Galaxie I feel your pain, and then some.  My future son in law worked in a detail shop and taught me something about washing the car.  After the initial wash with soap, wash the car at least twice more with clear water, emptying the bucket and refilling each time.  When he dried it, he must have used a dozen microfiber towels.  That car didn't have a spot on it when he was done and it didn't take much longer than the way that I was muddling through.

The car used to have the gold lower stripes.I removed the rocker panel trim and thought the stripes wouldn't look right so I decided to leave the lower stripes off.I also removed all the name plates,wheel well trim and the trunk lid trim.Front spoiler and louvers are gone now.Boss 429 (real one) hood scoop is gone and I have put the Cougar Eliminator scoop back on.
I sold all the options I worked so hard to find in the 80's except the tilt steering.I have stripped it right down.The folding rear seat has been replaced with a formed aluminum panel.Car now has all the oem radio and heater delete parts.I did keep the deluxe interior and had "real" comfort weave seats built for it.I also kept the finned taillight panel.Both the 67 and 68 have them and they are both oem pcs.All the oem parts for the 68 are in a box and will go with the car when ever it gets sold.

I very seldom ever wash the black car and when I do I always chamois (sp) it dry..Its a pain in the butt..

Picture is of how the car looked when I decided to tear it down and fix things.The paint job looked great but in reality it sucked.I have pictures of Mary peeling it off like vynal wrap

Underside....functional side scoops,frame connectors and tucked away in there is a Boss/CJ rear crossmember for the staggered rear shocks.I make my own adjustable traction master style bars and you can see my front mounts.

Not going to post to many pictures on the web till I am finished...but here is the engine less engine bay.The aluminum and stainless stuff is mine.The aluminum parts were all ceramic coated and then I altered the finish on them to dull them down...
Funny mount in the lower right is the lower mount for the torque arm I have on the engineVacuum hoses are for the tilt away steering and the car has all the oem heater delete stuff.

The neatest piece I see in that engine compartment is that funny little bracket on the frame rail, just below the master cylinder. THREE pedals...yeehaw!

Thanks...its been a 3 pedal car since the summer of 1979...I didn't quite make it home one night after a night at the bar.The little 302 that was in it survived but the C-4 didn't..I did eventually kill the 302 and the 8" rear.All good memories....
