C19 Therapy
« on: March 17, 2020, 11:57:50 AM »
Game for you all, which winter modification/tweak is likely to provide the most benefit?
This is very subjective I know but what item or two do you think will do the most good and in 3 words or less why?

Replaced Autolite 3923’s with 3924’s, gap reduced from 45 to 40
Power valve restrictor opened up a couple thou to bring A/F from 13 to 12.7 ish (nitrous prep)
Increased lash by ~ .020” across all rockers, looking to quiet at least one slightly noisy roller lifter
Some minor custom carb spacer internal leak sealing to improve dual plane all the way to carbs
Verified/tweaked proper primary and secondary slot exposure/uniformity on all 4 corners x2
Added oil separator for pcv, had previously removed valve cover baffle for rocker clearance
Added 2nd A/F sensor so I can switch between sides for monitoring (both showing equal at idle)
New rear leaf springs with much more rigid isolators
New 1 1/8 diameter sway bar installed up front, stock was maybe 3/4"
Polished and a coat of wax over all
Finished N2O plumbing and wiring

Can already see vacuum is slightly better at idle and idle in gear seems a bit more healthy, no street time yet
Thanks.

Wow, can't remember the last time I thought about or saw a can of 3 in 1 oil, is it still around?  What makes it 3 in 1?

Yes, 3-in-1 is still around.  Hit your local Lowe's or HD.  I always have it on hand since you can put that sh*t on anything.

3-in-1 is owned by the WD-40 Corporation. I doubt it's gonna disappear any time soon.

An under-the-front end and engine bay belly pan, or air dam by another name, as found on a lot of new cars these days. That and any front spoiler designed to block underneath-the-bumper airflow.

Funny, but I do now remember and old Car Craft (?) article where they did a lot of temporary changes to a drag race BBC Chevelle to see what better aero would do. They used cardboard and tape IIRC and some screwed-on aluminum sheeting to cover almost the entire bottom. Amazing but they did improve the mph numbers more than a few but I don't remember if the e.t. decreased much at all.

This not that article but.....

Hot Rod did a similar article on an early '80s Camaro, but it wasn't a drag car. It did make a difference in the CD, but like you, I doubt that turns into an advantage in the 1/4 mile. If it did, you'd see a lot more Stock and SS cars with factory front air dams on them, but you never see them. I'd considered taking the one off of my car, but I like the looks of it, so it stays.

I just finished the repair on the dragster nose after crunching it good a couple of years ago.  Without the duct tape all over it, I expect to pick up a tenth at least ;)

Yeah, but with a good wax job you'd pick up at least 3 tenths!

LOL

Depends on the color
Ronnie Sox always thought that white was faster.  I guess something had to make up for his sucky shifting ability ;)  lol
