going price for a t-bird 390

a guy came up to my window in my 66 caliente and told me he had a 390 out of a galaxie with thunderbird on the valvecovers, i guess its a thunderbird 390.i think they were 330 hp.but anyway he offered to sell it to me.he said its complete except carb,been sitting in a barn for 20 years.what should i offer him for it? im thinking a couple hundred,i havnt bought any 390s in a while

   I think I paid $250 for one with Mercury valve covers from a 64 Marauder last year.

he asked 300,i told him i gave 200 for my last one,i did and it was a 67 gt with carb,exhaust,chrome valve covers,complete from breather to oil pan.i got lucky it was standard bore and bearings.the guy who sold it to me said his father-in-law was going to put it in a drag car before he got sick.it had washers under the rocker pedestals.do you think he had the heads shaved or maybe he was working on getting the rocker geometry in line.
