How about a group purchase? I'll chip in $1000, and since it's my idea, I get it for the first year. 8)

I wonder how much the V6 powerplant will hurt this car, especially given the fact that the race car is moving up to a V8.

The Jaguar XJ220 comes to mind.  It is rare, super exotic, and fast.  For twenty years though, the values did not go up much over MSRP.  Only now are they shifting for decent money - over $350K.

I blame the V6 for that.  Will it hold back the new GT and make the previous gen even more valuable?  I bet Jay hopes so!

What??  The race car is going to a V-8?  I hadn't heard that; Bill can you elaborate on that a little?  I thought the reason for the V-6 was that it fit the chassis, whereas the V-8 wouldn't...

ford really has all their eggs in the ecoboost basket. I'll bet in 3 years that will be the only eng. available, with different hp. levels as the options. I haven't driven one yet & I am waiting to see what they do with the dirty intake valve situation. I don't see the v6 hurting the value on the gt.

$500,000 with tax.

Anyone know what insurance costs for a $500K 1 of 500 vehicle per year?  Serious question.

Oh no!  I went to look for the article I read a few weeks ago from Hot Rod.  This is what I found  >:(

Definitely a concern.  When I got my GT in 2005, I went shopping around for insurance.  Everybody I talked to wanted $3000 per year, except my long time insurer, State Farm.  They were only $1100 per year for a limited driving policy, so that's the way I went.  I guess being with them since I started driving in 1974, and never having had an accident, probably helped.  I might just contact them about this.

On another note, I decided to go ahead with the application process.  I read the fine print and it basically said there is no commitment from Ford to sell the car to you if you apply, and no requirement for you to buy the car if you are selected.  So, why not?  I got all the way through the application process, but then at the very end they want you to post a 60 second video on youtube explaining why you should be picked to own one LOL!  Well, this is going to be fun... ;D

I hope the engines prove durable. I stopped in and talked to a Ford mechanic buddy and he says they are replacing the timing chain on a lot of the 3.5 ecoboosts in the pickups. They are stretching. He has had some that he layed the old and new chains next to each other and with the same number of links the old chains had stretched so they were 3 links to long. I checked my parts catalog and Ford has not changed the part numbers or ID numbers so I don't believe there has been a re engineering of the chain. I have only heard good things about driveability and towing power minus poor mileage when towing. Jim

I volunteer to be the cameraman. As you know I have plenty of experience in this department, I'll make sure the video is interesting and engaging. 8) ;D

I think the video should be of the flogging Jay gave his '05 GT at Drag Week (with some snarky comments by Freiburger and plenty of clutch smoke).

This is my concern with the truck engines.
I get it in a smaller platforms. Nice engine but when you need a V8 you need a V8. I hope they prove me wrong.

If you listed and gave a quick showing of your Drag Week cars, the wins and the '05 GT, I'd almost bet money that you'd get a call eventually. I'm sure their looking for people who would take the car seriously, and not some rich young punk who's going to get bad publicity by crashing it.
