FE Technical Forum / Re: Ultrasonic cleaning machine recommendation?

I have a clean-o-sonic, which is made here. It took a while to get with the supply chain issues a couple years ago. There are used ones on eBay from time to time.

I believe this engine arrived at the yard with 130,000 and ran with no issues. Good advice about the timing chain, I will swap that out. The exterior looks much better than the motor in the article, and I don’t plan on rebuilding it, but I will spin it and check compression/leak down, most likely when already installed. Not sure if I will be able to spend time cobbling together a run stand.

Right now the two hang-ups are the Explorer front dress (wanted for good accessories and also because it is the shortest dress for Windsor motors), which requires a custom crank pulley for a supercharger, along with the crank sensor as previously noted. I suppose I can use a TFI distributor if needed, which I pulled from an HO 5.0 Lincoln in case it was needed. I really just want to use the factory coils if possible, or install coil-on-plug or coil-near-plug for each cylinder.

I checked out SDS. I am going to send them a message or call some time tomorrow.

I have had a 1998 Explorer 5.0 sitting in my garage for quite a few years. It was actually a present from my friend who bought a spare during, “Cash for Clunkers,” and was destined for my Jeep’s engine bay ever since. Fast forward quite a few years, does anyone have some insight on these motors?

The GT40P heads were great in their day, but will require custom headers to work. Aftermarket heads ( allegedly available in 2-3 months) will also require custom headers unless Novak Conversions can help me out.

The wiring is relatively a pain, as many just abandoned the Explorer stuff and used the Mustang AL9 ECU with a distributor rather than the crank and cam sensors with the waste-coil spark ignition. The Holley Dominator set-up looks to be the best bet, but the crank sensor may not work with the factory crank trigger. Any help is appreciated - I’m trying to get this motor ready for an early summer install, and hope to install a custom cam and low psi supercharger later if eBay presents the 6 psi Powerdyne that I have have been looking for.

I used a hand held steam cleaner to get rid of the grease and oxidation on my AMC/Jeep 258 just recently. Karcher SC, made in Germany and was $100 on eBay. I used it for on and off-engine parts, and it worked great. Oven cleaner sprayed on the greasy parts, and nothing but steam and hand scrubbing where the electrical connections were located.

The oxidation is tough to totally eliminate on parts left outside, but a wipe down with some oil made a big difference after cleaning.

I received my pieces from Steele. They make most in house and contract a small amount of parts from Taiwan. The prices are higher, but worth it. Communication from their front office was great, also.

I have some pieces from Dennis Carpenter that are not so great and will be replaced
with the Steele parts.

Richard, if you look at the Ebay link I showed up above, you will which ones I'm looking for.

I don't think they are from 1976 applications, they have a C7 part number in them???????

They carried over the part number when they changed the design. I almost bought a set like the ones you want, but I had NOS Parts LTD. send me a picture and I nixed the order when I saw they were the late style. They were also black, rather than blue.

Funny you say that WConley for about 8 years I had the account for a porsche and audi dealer near me from like 1998 to 2006 and I put fram filters on them thinking I was doing the right thing and when they saw it they told me that I cant use framthe manufacturer gives them a hard time if that filter is on a motor that has a problem. I never used them again on any car.

And yes that looks hot Brent and make no mistake it will make more HP.

What filter manufacturer supplies the, “Autolite,” reproduction filters?

Sweet. No Pinto’s here, but thanks for the endorsement. I have not been able to find people posting online gripes you might discover when looking at Dennis Carpenter reviews.

Has anyone used their parts? They are pricier than most, but I would be happy to pay for high quality and domestically produced.

An NV4500 weighs as much as the Jeep! Not very good ratios either, too big a drop 3rd to 4th. A T19 from a mid 80's 6.9 diesel is smaller, lighter and better ratios, just no overdrive.

You’re not wrong - more than 100 lbs heavier than the stock T-176. But the NV4500 can hold up to a UPS truck, and the Tremec TR-4050 seems far less strong.

Hmmm, I wonder how much hassle it would take to put it in a 64 F350. Love to see if a NV 4500 would be a match with a decent set of rear end gears for towing. Does this motor need a special box to run the EFI? And is there any mention of a stand alone system for it? Thinking out of the box again.

If this is the modular bellhousing, "Quick Draw Brand," has an NV4500 adapter on eBay. I wonder what the dimensions are and if they fit fairly easily in a Jeep CJ; the weight is not much more than the 515 lbs or so for the factory 258 straight 6 . . .

I saw your photos on Tapatalk. Do you have an updated inventory?

Great looking collection, by the way. I love the Lemans bowls.
