Felony I understand now thanks for the reply.  He is not the first i have a few guys near me that have done it. I couldnt believe the amount of work and cost thats what i tried to explain in my post, and why i asked about what was involved. I bought a new machine cause i needed a block surfacer as well at the time so i figured one machine could do blocks and heads and the upgrade to have CBN (PCD) and carbide. these both are the disc style new cutters, has variable speed on the cutter and table. I have surfaced 3 heads (aluminium) so far, and just surfaced a sbc last night  the finish is amazing to say the least!! the sbc i havent got the finish where i want it its good but not as good as i expected and as i type this i now know why :-[  i bet the old man didnt switch the cutter to carbide.. The speed is a big thing with these cutters..  My 85b leaves a really good finish but not what the import and LS guys excpect.. I loved reading the context from engine builder magazine post above an want to print part of it to give to certain customers. The Internet is great but WE as Engine builders have to answer a lot of ?'s or enlighten the customer on things that we wouldnt have had to in the past. as the info WE provide sometimes causes this gotta run Dave

He`d be lucky to get 50k for each engine done ready to run...

Do you know what he had to do to make the 87 85B work w CBN-pcd i looked into it and decided it was just not really cost effective and needing a new block surfacer i went w a new machine.

I just aquired a New CBN surfacer it has 2 cutters one CBN one carbide as well adjustable speed on both the surfacing head and table. What a finish! My storm vulcan 85 has a great finish but more and more customers with the aluminium heads feel they need a better surface.. I also bought this machine to surface blocks. The old machine was to time consuming...

I bid up to 1675.00 idk what happened but my didnt get in and i did it 2 hrs Before the end.. I was concerned about the extra holes drilled and oblonged mounting holes or i wouldve went higher. Ponds is exact match.. cnc though a few could tell the diff but @ 1550.00 its seems the way to go.. I guess i have to make some more money to play in the OEM SOHC parts game heck even the repro stuff LOL Hind sight i shouldve went higher but i was bidding on a set of Halibrand wheels too for my coupe.. :-\
