With the performance work those around me have done, and I've done,to late model Fords it seems the engines hold up well to the normal tuning type mods that add 100 or so HP and they still are not tempermental in traffic.
Even if the plan is to race on the weekends out of town, driving the car, most of what breaks is the same FE or Mod.Clutch, rear,u joint. With an FE add rockers, shafts, cam going flat, water pump, rear main leak, fuel pump...and the fact even the gaskets are not stocking parts at most parts stores. Unless you happened to get a bad one the new mods will go 100,000 miles with just an oil change!(but change the plus if you race it)
But they still don't fit our old shock tower Fords.

The sub category's sounds like the way to go. Then if a member has a question or comment it can be made in the tech section of the forum without confusing the more permanent articles on the main page.

The Tips and Tricks for engine assembly could fill a complete message board alone.......
Setting up rockers, stands, pushrod clearance to manifold, manifold to head,restrick/don't restrick oil passages, rear main seal..........

Well they do say we don't "drive"dyno's.

I can't really say what I lost or gained, other than that very low rpm cruise, if it's "gathering up it's skirt" below 3000rpm I can't tell, it still blows the rear tires loose in third gear at the magic 3000rpm(and below). Matter of fact it spins the tires after the 3-4 shift too........oh yea....... 8).

I think it has more to do with the draw on the booster in the carb.
I'm running an 850 Demon,I like to say it has been molested (adjustable everything).
I think the RPM just gives a stonger signal to the booster so the carb pulls into the main either quicker or more likely just "cleaner".
I was running a 4 hole spacer on the SM but the package wouldn't fit under the hood on my Mustang with the RPM,so I have only a 1/2 four hole now.

Anyway it did what I wanted, which was tame it at the 1800-2200 rpm band I seem to drive in.

Thanks allot Jay. :)
I went to our local once a year "good swapmeet nobody knows about"
SM with a worn out 600 Holley $200!

But I did sell one for $150. ;)

Do I have to send you a cut? I bought a book, will that cover it?

BTW I swapped from a SM to RPM the low end carb tuning and cruise,2000rpm ish, became much less touchy and the mixture became more stable according to my LC1 O2 indicator...

A little history...
All Fords from 1979-now.I swapped out a 289 to 428cj in my first car in 1980,did the 5.0 thing off and on till '99,had SVO's,a Merkur and 03 Marauder. Hot rodded a 64 Comet with a 351 and Tremec,Now I have a 68 Mustang Coupe with a Survival Stroked 390,433cuin,Tremec,3.70 gear 9in.

The car is cool, really what most of us would want as the GT.
The engine is the star though, the rest of the car is just a well tuned Mustang.
I've been saying lately that if the new 5.0 crate motor came out or was even leaked before I dropped the near $8k in my FE and install I would have notched the shock towers in my Mustang to install it instead.
I love my FE but I know I would drive the car much more if I got double digit gas mileage...

FE Technical Forum / Re: Cam selection for EFI?
« on: April 22, 2011, 07:03:34 PM »
From speaking with F.A.S.T. the EZefi will "work" best with cams the produce greater than 12inhg at idle ,10 will work but you may(most likely) get some rolling idle,8 maybe as good as the carb you replaced.
The problem is the lack of timing control with the FAST system.
Long duration cams do send unburned fuel out the exhaust, the O2 sensor see's this as LEAN.A "miss" also shows as LEAN to the O2 sensor, because of that the FAST ez is always behind, mixture wise,at idle.Rich-Lean-rich-lean. Greater idle timing helps allot but needs to be pulled out under load.
