OK guys, Here are some pictures of "CJ" valve covers that I have. The first set are the questionable ones. And yes they are factory chrome. I thought they were from a 390/428 t-bird dress up kit. The second ones are the snake aluminums. The third are from a standard 390 that a guy had on a pickup. I also have the finned aluminum ones like the snakes less the snakes.  I have been told that they all were for 428s. So whats the verdict? Feroadster I can`t believe you have never run across the ones in the first photos.

All those covers will bolt onto CJ heads.

The first were never factory installed on a 428CJ

The chrome PBFs were the most common 428CJ valve covers, and were used on 390GT engines from 1967-on

The aluminum covers with the snake were not factory installed (I'm sure there's room for debate on this) but were a popular dealer accessory item.

Finned aluminum covers without the snake logo were used on later 428CJ engines and also were found on some industrial applications (leftovers?)

Were all factory 428 Cobra Jet engines hydraulic lifter engines? Assuming your first set are identical dimensions to the common painted ones, those do not clear factory adjustable rockers. If they do they have to be slightly taller.

Yes, even SCJ engines were hydraulic.

Cool, so those would have worked. If factory CJ I wonder why they carried over for 2 1/2 years when other covers had been running? Ford........
