Title: Another street 428 CJ with NOS camshaft, but ported heads and intake
Post by: Joe-JDC on July 18, 2021, 11:50:22 AM
This is another numbers matching 428 CJ refresh with minor changes.  Diamond pistons +.015, dish for 10:1 compression, NOS -C camshaft, crower lifters, standard/standard crankshaft, points distributor, stock coil, 735 Holley, ported iron heads with stock valves and 30* intake seats, ported iron intake manifold.  Did break-in with AmsOil 30 wt, and 20 dyno pulls testing JBA tri-Ys against Hooker Super Comp vs dyno headers and a couple of carb changes.  Stock carb spacer, vs 1/2" composite spacer.  Going into a R code mustang, so no Super Sucker spacers, etc.  Ran fan belt on water pump.  Jay's clear valve covers used to watch valves, pushrods turn, and just plain cool factor.  Had several folks take pictures of the valve covers, and ask where I bought them.  Car is C-6, but Ted didn't have a CJ flywheel, so had to source a flywheel through Brent Lykins, for quick delivery.  Thanks Brent.  The dyno headers are large with about 10" before a bend, so they were up 7-9 hp over the JBA and Hookers.  The JBA and Hooker SC, were nearly identical in torque and horsepower, with the Hookers slightly better in torque.  That surprised me.  Will be a great engine for AC, PS, PDB, C-6, 3.50 gears.

Best pulls:  Dyno headers 454/403.7
                  JBA headers  452.4/393.9
                  HSC headers 464.6/394
