427HR build for towd56....
« on: March 16, 2020, 11:40:37 AM »
I just wanted to share this because this is such a nice little build.  This one belongs to towd56, who's putting it in a Thunderbolt clone.  He has all kinds of awesome toys, including the wagon with a 540 hp 390....

Dennis says he picked this block up when "he was a kid".  I wish I could have found stuff like this when I was a kid.

Heads and intake were ported by Lawes Mayfield.  Bronze valve guides with SI stainless 2.190"/1.750" 11/32" valves.

Camshaft is a custom solid flat tappet, nitrided, and I have a set of Trend tool steel lifters here for him.   Just ordered a set of Diamond pistons today, looking at about 12.3:1 compression right now.  Gonna be a healthy piece for sure.

I see you have the rare underline 99 block there. They are really high on uranium content for strength.   ;D

That looks like a fun build. I ran a 454 inch hi riser in my Mustang when it was a street racer.

Maybe that one could use the infamous "D" for dynamite camshaft.

That's a great project there. Things like this being pulled out from under the bench, make me warm and fuzzy all over.  I will be sheet rocking my garage soon, I'm super excited like a kid again right now.  All these old iron stories are the best.  Stay Healthy, god bless.

Looks good Brent. I’m thinking of trading it for some hand sanitizer  :)

Looks good Brent. I’m thinking of trading it for some hand sanitizer  :)

I will beat that trade and let you feel good about it  :)

Three things....

1 - I deliver directly, no middle man :)
2 - I'll match his hand sanitizer and add some good TP, Quilted Northern, not cheap stuff either
3 - I regularly use "wicked" in a sentence, we are almost brothers

That’s cool, I was just sniffing one of those intakes last week.

What is block date code and what is the significance of the AB suffix?

Are those contours ground into the intake ports? Maybe it's just a weird reflection from a flash or something, but certainly looks like some sort of flow 'directors' in there.

Doug, that's a HR head trait, not ground in.

Not a lot of work was done to these.  They flow 320/220 here.

I guess I don't recall seeing them before, but I've never had a HR either.

Dennis, I was sniffing a cousin to your block today. Same casting date and it is part of a Hi-Riser project!

 Be well,

It could be but it is well used. The block needs two adjoining sleeves which is often frowned upon depending on the sleeve thickness and condition of the block. There are HR heads with it that are really hogged out and a HR single 4 intake. I’m first in line for purchase and trying to work an agreement with owner on proofing the block.

The parts are not in the league of your build.
