427 Cross Bolt Spacers Available?
« on: September 10, 2020, 08:45:04 PM »
Have a chance to pick up a block but it's missing the cross bolt spacers. Can these be had or made?

Thanks guys.

I have seen them for sale on feeBay before but any competent shop can make them.

They would be easy to make for someone with a lathe.  I'd imagine you'd have to measure and make each one to fit.

When I cross-bolted a C4 block some years ago,I had a set and a couple of spares. We still ended up making several more to get the correct fit. They should thumb-press into the space with light pressure. Good luck

(I just found a spare in my desk drawer. It's marked .3735)

Cool. Thank you gentleman.

The block is supposedly standard bore but has had a sleeve installed. Evidently there's a couple cracks somewhere by where the sleeve was installed and it has some welding done to it. Again, around the sleeve install. It wasn't that clear when I spoke with the gentleman. Going to look at it tonight after work.

He also has a 428 shortblock he wants $1500.00 for if anyone is interested. Eureka, CA.

Are you getting it cheap?  Block prep can be expensive, figure you need mains aligned, decks cut, and bore all standard costs before you get into the cost of the crack repair.  Sometimes these old blocks aren't worth it.

I'd bank on at least 1500 added to the cost to get it ready for crank and pistons, depending on cracks, could even be dead on arrival

Also, remember some are solid lifter only, not a show stopper, but changes the tune (and sometimes risk) of a build.

It's a '65 top oiler. He wants $450.00 for it.

The factory made 3 sizes, and were selected for best fit from the 3
