Oiling system question

Ok, I'm getting closer to getting my car on the road. After taking the advice of those here whenever I originally posted my Horsepower question I am now wondering about the oiling system. Here are the new particulars:..

66 Fairlane GT ( Toploader )
3:50 Detroit Locker
410 setup ... 390 ( + .030 ), 428 crank
Icon 410 pistons
428 CJ factory heads with new undercut valves ( original factory sizes ) no extra porting
FPA custom built ceramic coated headers with 2 1/2 inch exhaust
Howards Rattler Cam
       Intake .548 281 duration, Exhaust .548 289 duration
       Lobe Separation 109, Intake C/ L 103
       Duration at  .050 ... Intake 227, Exhaust 235
Edelbrock Performer RPM with Holly 750
Pertronix Ignitor II centrifugal advance
Considering my anticipated usage ( cruise ins, car shows, with occasionally throwing my foot into it and maybe once or twice a year making a couple of passes at the strip ) I am wondering about the adaptor that the oil filter screws into. My current part number indicates an original older piece ( C0AE 6884 A ) and it looks like I have a stock oil pan. Is it worth my while to upgrade to the later version 428 CJ adaptor piece which is supposed to have bigger holes and should I upgrade the pan considering my anticipated usage ? Any thoughts will be welcome. Thanks.               Bob

A bigger oil pan is always a plus.  They can make horsepower and keep your oil temp cooler.

I would not upgrade the filter adapter unless you already have one laying around and just want to play.

Thanks Brent. I will strongly consider the pan upgrade. As far as the dipstick is concerned, I remember reading something about the original stock dipsticks need to be re marked or replaced. Any thoughts ?

The dip sticks need to be remarked,because you need to run one extra qt of oil.

You should at least have a pan, that has a baffle across the top of the rear of the sump (oil level), to keep oil from slushing to the rear of the pan.

Oil restrictors to the rocker arms are important, too. That keeps more oil in the pan, also.

If you use the stock type oil pan you can run 7 quarts of oil in the system.
6 quarts in the pan and 1 in the filter. When the engine is running it will have
about 2 1/2 quarts up in the engine circulating.
In my Canton T oil pan I put 9 quarts and 1 in the filter.

All Above Sugggestions Will Be Helpfull. I Would, However Go with The Newer Style Oil Filter Adapter. The Size And Contours Of The Pasages In It AreAdvantageous, And Most FE Enthusiasts Would Agree. They Can Be Pulled Off Of Most 1968 And Newer Passenger Car FE Engines. You Can Also Run A 2 Quart Wix Oil Filter, For Added Oil Capacity. They Are Cheaper If You Buy Them In Packs Of 6. They Were Used On Heavy Duty Ford Trucks, And Have Obvious Benefits. Extra Oil Capacity In The System, And More Filter Media, = Extra Flow. Have Used Them For Years In Most FE And Several Ford Explorer Applications.

If the engine is not in the car a deeper pan is a nice upgrade.  If the thing is already installed - or if original cosmetics are important - don't lose any sleep over it.  Add the extra quart and go about the business of having fun.  Same for the adapter - although that's awful easy to find and install - and it is an incremental improvement.
