Kuntz 527 FE 1100 HP?

Mornin Gents

Have seen the video of Kuntz 527 FE with special heads making over 1100 HP.
Your Thoughts on reliability and cost?

He has put together a few 1000hp + Fe's . Personally I think a 1000hp Fe is as reliable as any other 1000hp push rod engine as long as the good stuff is used .. cost $ ? Well yeah, theres the deciding factor. ..  maybe oneday,  in my dreams at least.

Aren't the heads on that motor $10K+?  Seems like a lot for a wedge motor.  I don't see why it wouldn't be reliable though, as long as you fed it the correct gasoline.  I'm sure that engine is 15:1 or something like that...

For that kind of money, I think you would be happier building a SOHC. While you won't produce that much power, Jay can tell you how much power is possible. His last one had like 800+hp and his yet to be released one I'm willing to bet is in the 900 range.

$6500 per head? Damn, you could create a DOHC FE for that kind of money. Once you're building a billet head, there is little difference between a pushrod and a DOHC in terms of cost of the heads. Obviously you'll have to dish out more for cams. Just imagine, a 4V, quad cam FE...

No reason you cannot make over a 1000 with a Cammer.
I had one at 527 inches make 870 at 7000 with only 11.5:1 compression, no air pump, and a cast intake.

As far as I know Kuntz has built the only three or four 1000+HP FE wedge motors.  Been kinda hoping to see one of the 1000+HP wedges on the track - anybody know where they've ended up?  I was somewhat involved with a wedge that got over 900HP and the car has gone 8.70s in a fairly heavy car.  If one on those big guns gets into a featherweight car we could see a 7 second FE wedge - how cool would that be?

Jim Kuntz is on my "short list" of really smart engine men.  Reliability of such a beast would largely depend on camshaft.  The valvetrain.....everything above the cam.......will be high maintenence.  As far as cost....you could just call Jim.  Something like that from my camp would be +/- $50K.

1100hp from a 527 is 2.087HP per cubic inch. That's amazing on most any pushrod engine let alone an engine design from the 50's. Wow.

Random trivia: Ray Paquet holds the SS/A record with an 8.55@154.07. He's got to be over 900hp with his unstroked 427 and a HP/cubic inch also north of 2.00.
