On the topic of Intakes- and full disclaimer I'm a newbie to automotive mechanics as my background was in Harley’s prior to 8 yrs ago. I have a 390 out of a 65 Thunderbird that I'm told is mostly stock. I am looking at putting an new intake on it and was looking at ideas from you guys. I reached out to a few BT dealers but not gotten answered yet about their intake. And also seen for about half the price the Edelbrock Performer intake. It’s going into my ‘58 Mercury Monterey Project. Thanks

Truth stands on its own merit.

Edelbrock Performer RPM would be excellent choice for your 390. Blue Thunder Medium Riser, used Streetmaster, Street Dominator, Edelbrock F-427 are all decent. Joe-JDC

+1 on Joe's suggestion, hard to beat the Performer RPM.

Thanks for the input! On the Edelbrock line there is the Performer that is Idle and up and then the RPM Version that goes 1500 and up. Other than that what’s the difference?
I’m also looking into exhaust manifolds for it. Headers vs manifolds. The car is going to be lowered a few inches. It’s a manual steering model and it looks like the 390 is alittle narrower than the MEL 383 we are pulling out of it.

RPM has larger runners and a taller plenum. It doesn't have an exhaust crossover if that's important to you. Headers are generally thought to be good for 20hp or more depending on the application, over a set of basic log manifolds.
