Private Classifieds / Re: Looking for C7AE-F intake
« on: September 14, 2012, 07:06:08 PM »
Would you guys mind clueing me in on what is up with this?  I am guessing NHRA (or someone?) has changed the rules in some class and now requires this intake?  I have one (not for sale, sorry) that I bought from a guy who said he used it in NHRA in the early 70's.  It is port blended for the first 1/4".  He told me this was NHRA legal to do, but only this first 1/4".  True then?  Still true?  Just curious.

Ideally, you will find a reluctor with the 10 degree slot, but they seem to be hard to find and hit/miss as I haven't been able to figure out which distributors had them originally so it is a shot in the dark.  On the 14/18 ones like you have, I have been bending up a small piece of metal and silver soldering it to the 18 side to limit the travel.  I guesstimate the location based on the difference in slot between the 14 and 18 (assuming the difference equals 4 degrees) and then place it to get, for example, an 8 degree reduction in travel to get 10 mechanical.  It looks sort of crude, but I have been running two of these modified in this way for about a year and they are still there and working.

Sorry, I didn't take a picture of the finished product or I would post it as I'm sure my description is lacking.

The Sealed Power number is 22414158 if that helps.

I also found a place called stangersite that has good reviews and may replace some of my Flaming River parts from him and have my steering box and original control valve and power cylinger rebuilt.
They certainly have a lot of good info on their site:
http://www.stangerssite.com/steering.html

If you Google this guy, you may find that he does good work but that it could take months/years before you see your parts and you won't be able to get him on the phone until he is good and ready.  I don't have any personal experience, but just a heads up as I have seen quite a few posts elsewhere about this.  Your mileage may vary  :)

Are you using a windage tray?  Original Cobra Jet cars had issues with the dipstick catching the front of the windage tray, then sliding along it instead of going into the oil pan.  I clearance the tray in that area to be sure it doesn't happen.

That was fun!  Thanks for the link.  Sure look like slicks on that Hemi...??? (or at least not street tires)

We've been using a Ford Racing part that's made in USA -  seems pretty nice for under 300 bucks.

Barry - I don't see anything that appears correct for FE in the Ford Racing catalog.  Do you have a p/n for this please?

Never mind - I found it on a search of CJ Pony Parts website.  The zero balance version is M6375N427, $288.35.  Thanks for the tip!

I think you have this figured out, but all of these numbers get confusing, so just to be sure....

Your last measured intake value of 105.25 is the measured intake centerline versus a spec of 106 intake centerline.  Your cam is only off spec .75 degree.  I would probably advance it 2 degrees to anticipate chain stretch and pick up a little bottom end, but you could run it "as is" IMO.

BTW, I am a rookie at this stuff myself, so I hope the experts here will correct me if I am wrong.

The cork gasket on my C6 was "oozing" fluid, so I just replaced it with FelPro TOS18628.  This is sort of a rubberized material (not cork).  It has only been on the car about a week now but no leaks so far.
