This car has been talked about here before. Its a 67 R code custom..Its up in BC here and is being put back on the road..They couldnt find a 427 so it has a 390 in it..They are having some problems which i will get into later...The question is what did Ford put in this car for exhaust manifolds...Did it come with those special Fairlane manifolds.
-
Look up C5 65-67 427 long exhaust manifolds. Slightly cheaper than the 427 fair lanes manifolds.
-
If I remember correctly this was a full size Ford wasn’t it? In that case the correct exhaust manifolds are the ‘65-‘67 style 427 long cast iron ones. The 427 Fairlane/Comet exhaust manifolds were just for those intermediate models.
-
Long style makes sense....The 390 has CJ heads on it and they are having problems...I am thinking 8 bolt early stuff should work..They tried CJ manifolds and had clearance issues...They phoned me looking for GT manifolds and I explained they dont fit CJ heads...These are self admitting chevy guys working on a Ford but at least they are reaching out for help...He actually asked if the 406 stuff would work...

I’m currently bringing a 65 R code custom back to life. Fortunately my car came with the correct manifolds which are specific to 65-7 full size cars. I’ve seen a few sets pop up for sale and they generally are in the $2500 range.

If I recall properly, the first of the 67 full size 427 cars got the long tube manifolds, however after that Ford decided to cheap-out and put the Fairlane manifolds on them, causing some complaints from the new owners. Ironically today the Fairlane manifolds are worth more than the long tubes are.........Jim Kramer

Is there an active registry for these cars?
Dave , you out there?
MBowling, do you know how many 67 Custom 500s were rumored to have been made?

There is a 427 Galaxie registry. I can’t recall exact numbers but after there being 3-4K for 63 & 64 each year it dropped like a rock in 65. Seems the number for the entire 65 model range is around 320.

This would be an early car, it was ordered before the 67 Fairlane 427 was ever announced.
Should have the long C5AE manifolds and the tall pentroof valve covers.

My neighbor showed me a picture of a local original family 65 or 66 4 door r code galaxie. They made some crazy combinations.
