WHos going?
Whos ready?
-
I thought YOU were going, Cap'n. Bit off a little more than you could chew this year? Sounds familiar... ::)
-
I greatly overestimated my ambition level - Build a car from scratch in 6 months... I must have gotten my abilitys confused with yours. :-[ ;D So this year I will have to once again try to hitch a ride as a lowly Trunk Monkey.
The good news on my drag week car is that I will finaly pick it up from having the roll cage installed tommorrow. I am now officially enthused again!
-
I hope to have my Galaxie running within the next week or so. I am still unsure whether I'll make it. I usually like more shake down time before venturing so far from home. Plus, the guys I was going to tag along with have bailed. I haven't thrown in the towel yet, though. :)
-
Alan, is your friend with the big block Chev Z car still going?
-
No, he chose not to enter his car this year. He was going to ride along with his brother in his '85 Malibu but his brother has pretty much decided not to go. He said he is going to shoot for next year. Believe it or not, he just got through installing a/c in that monster!
-
Hey Joel.....how about some pics with the new cage?
The good Reverend Brown will give you a special dispensation to post some non-Ford (hack, hack) pics, I'm sure!
Btw, I'll attend if Jay'll let me drive the GT! Hah!

I see nothing in the rules about not posting non-Ford, just non-FE. So a pic of your cage would be cool. There's always something to be learned, even on less-than-desireable brands...haha. Although I think the rules should be modified so that no IMPORT cars are posted ;D
-
Doug, your bias is showing ;D Alan's friend's 280Z is actually a really cool car, and I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of it on here. Joel also has permission to post pics of the cage in his new car here; after all, this is the non-FE discussion board...
-
I have to say there is not much "import" left in Brad's 240Z. Also, he is a super nice guy and does not fit the typical "Chebbie guy" stereotype.
-
An American engine changes the game. I was only talking about rice burners :)
That thing looks deadly!
-
OK, I'll gladly put up some pics, just don't be to hard on be for having a Mopar...
I'm really enthused to have it back at my place so I can get busy on it again. It's been gone for a few months, and the "out of sight, out of mind" thing sets in. I think Gizmo did a great job. He built the cage, boxed the frame, built the 4 link rear suspension, engine mounts, and trans crossmember. I just need to hide the invoice from the Warden.

Looking good. Is the cage going to need to be certified? What's the target ET?
-
Man those are funny valve covers, you planning on 4 PCV valves per side?
Looks like a great ride...
-
I'm loving those old time carb scoops and the wide whitewalls! That car would sure class up the Gasser class at Drag Week. Just wait 'til next year...
-
I allso have a mopar hotrod .A 25 Chrysler phaeton.
But i have Fordified it ;D Y-block, Rug trans 9 in rear
Ford 35 front axle and a 28 Ford grill shell
-
Meow Kevin, The cage is inspected and certified, I think it is good to 8.50. I just want to get into the high nines, and have it stay fun and reliable.
427: Hemis need 8 PCV's with all the blow by... ;D
Jay - I was thinking that if I went with the tunnel ram, it would need something 60's vintage and different on top of the carbs. Velocity stacks seemed too 70's. Then I remembered that I saw some scoops like this on some 60s show car back in the day, maybe a barris car or something, and a search on ebay turned up this pair. And you're right the Hot ROd class at DW needs dressing up a bit. I'll try!
Heo - a Y block in a Chrysler? Well, that's way better than putting a scrub in it! Have you guys discussed scrubs here?
-
Yes i built it from leftovers i had laying around
I Think if i use all of its 164.328 truck hp the
et will be lower than 20 sec ;D ;D
the headlights are from a 35 scrub truck
-
Very nice, Joel! Love the carb scoops, the wheels and wide whites. Except for the 4-link, it looks like it's straight out of a '50s Hot Rod. The cage looks pretty darn stout, especially with the double supports at the back. Is that a 392 or 426? 9s in that thing would definitely be....um, interesting :o
And I have to ask....what is a scrub? That's a new term on me.
-
Around these parts we don't use the "C" word ( rhymes with heavy ) The word Scrub is substituted. If you look at some of the dictionary definitions I think you will see it is a perfect fit:
Scrub:
An animal of inferior breeding, mongrel.
Anything undersized or inferior.
Stunted or undersized
Composed of substitute or untrained players ( sports )

Any update Joel? Did you "work at the speed of Brown" and it's ready for DragWeek?
