FE Technical Forum / Re: Logo removal - Edelbrock heads
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:39:32 PM »
Don't have a pic of mine handy - but there are a couple 8" ones on ebay right now.

Not expensive or fancy - just kinda heavy and fun to install.

No problem at all.  We do it all the time.  Vertical riser insert on the Bridgeport make it easy to stand a head upright.

We've built LOTS of 445s at the 500 level and I have never seeen a broken factory main bolt...

I think mine is some sort of pinkish ceramic - kinda grindable though

FE Technical Forum / Re: Killer Blair Patrick FE Dyno Results
« on: March 05, 2012, 06:07:09 PM »
Couple of serious sisters there - very cool.

DTS BSFC numbers are always kinda low - seems to be inherent in the software.  I tend to almost ignore the BSFC data other than a "backup" glance, and also go straight to the O2 numbers these days.  That second engine might intuitively have been hunting for a little more fuel looking at the O2 and fuel pressure numbers....but I am asuming that Blair already worked the combo for best results.

I have just left and right O2 on my dyno - but would really like to get to the point of having eight O2s - I think there is a lot to gain there in terms of cylinder variation.

Radius face.  CLEAN block and bore.  I calibrate against the front "china wall" below where the intake sits - nice flat and machined surface there that you can decently measure.

Wow indeed!
I've never seen one that bad!
Wonder how the head itself brinnels?
Cast from peanut butter?

Yep
Ford Racing sets used here now.
The 9 keyways is a convenience item
The better than Cloyes price for a Cloyes part is the best deal going
Never had your problem with a Cloyes item, I've had some issues with Rollmaster stuff and tend to steer away from them.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Meziere Electric Water Pumps
« on: January 25, 2012, 08:50:50 AM »
Just use the normal Meziere pump.  I ran one on the street for ten years with Fes up to around 700ish and had zero issues.  Or buy the bigger motor and impeller and stuff it into the FE Meziere housing - most appear to be the same basic piece.  I have no idea how they decided to rate an electric water pump at engine peak horsepower when the on the road temps are not dependent upon peak power in any way.  If you're running a 16v system the pump speed and water flow will go up commensurately....

We've been using a Ford Racing part that's made in USA -  seems pretty nice for under 300 bucks.  You can get a Chinese import piece for just over 200.  I have run them on the dyno and they fit OK, but I don't have much experience with them in a car.

« on: January 12, 2012, 10:51:08 PM »
The Ford Racing/Fel-Pro 1020 gasket has a flattened steel fire ring around the combustion chamber that does a better job of sealing under high pressures.  The passenger car gasket you mention will work perfectly fine in a moderate street application - something under 500HP should be no big deal.  I just like having extra insurance....

I will probably have Willie make a set up for my shop in aluminum.

I suspect that the "trick" setup will be to bolt a real head onto a block & measure the distortion from below - and then find a torque value that mirrors that distortion with the plate.  In the past we used the BHJ iron plates with a stack of washers/shims to mimic fastener heights, along with the proper gaskets.  Just seems that we should also be using the same material as well...

Seen ads but never felt the need to use them.  Guide liners "fix" the problem with standard valves...

Normal in stock stuff

We have the BT later medium riser port, the traditional 427 MR port, and a double thickness traditional MR port.  For those who do not know about them, the BT gaskets are made from an Interface Solutions salmon colored material that has the consistancy of floor tile - trimmable with a sharp x-acto blade, but very durable.
