Got the initial break in with no leaks, no drips, no errors. Tried three new carbs, QF-750, BG-930, Holley 1150 Dom, and yes the Dominator made more torque and horsepower on the little Y. Now for the tunnel ram and TWO QF-650's, or two QF-750's, or Holley 660's. Looking good so far. Joe-JDC

Good going Joe, Can't wait to see it perform.. I am sure you will have a razor sharp tune on it.. I am betting there is some more horsepower with the tunnel ram and 2x4..

Thanks, Royce. It sure has been a fun project to build. My garage is a mess right now. It never ceases to amaze me how well the Y Block responds to modifications, and how strong it really is. I am a little off in my camshaft selection, but it sure runs good. If I could get it to peak a little lower in the rpm band, then it would be nearly perfect for the competition. Joe-JDC
PS. I have e-mailed you at least 5 times with no reply. I don't know if my e-mails are getting through, or if there is still a problem with my carrier.

Really enjoy hearing from you gents that run Ys.
Hope you have fun with it.

Joe I am not getting the emails.. I need to check the spam filters to make sure you are not blocked.
If you tell me what you are looking for lift and duration wise on a cam I might have one here that would fit.. Free to use it if you want to go to the trouble..
Most people will scoff when we comment on how Y Blocks can be made to perform so well without a lot of aftermarket support.. At the risk of being flamed, on a hp/cu in basis, Y Blocks are much easier to get power from than almost any other Ford engine.. As JC says: "It is the magic of over/under ports" LOL

Looking good, Joe!
I was hoping to see that ancient YC tach drive Mallory distributor I gave you on that Y. ;)
Go get 'em!
-
Yes, I considered that distributor, but the new MSD won out due to the two wire, MSD 6AL, Coil, etc. Have to mount everything on a small piece of aluminum and attach to the rear of the engine block/bell housing. Going back to the dyno on Wednesday for tunnel ram testing and hopefully set a new NA hp level for a few days until Ted gets his engine up and running. Jon K's doesn't count since it had non-stock port heads on that engine.

Joe,, Do you have the engine sitting in front of the T Bird so they can get acquainted for an eventual union?
-
Actually, I am in the process of building a 346 Y with iron heads and vintage intake for the '55. The 3 x 2 dyno session got my attention with the Edelbrock 573 and Big Bore Strombergs, and I still have the Edelbrock 255, 257, and Ford 8V to test. The 375 Y is 13:1 as it sits, and that is just not street friendly. Still looking for another '56 to beat on with 375 Y. Joe-JDC

Never thought I'd see a y-block with a dominator on it. :)
