Great info here--My427stang, ScotiaFE.

Certainly, I did not mean to imply that there is a lack of experience on the part of the "number-crunchers". Clearly, My427stang has a broad spectrum of experience with these numbers, which is precisely what I find very helpful. Your friend with the Super T10 sounds like he is pushing the engine past its optimum powerband with the over-aggressive gearing.

ScotiaFE, your experiences also have helped revive my enthusiasm for the toploader conversion. A manual transmission is the icing on the cake, the cherry on the sundae, etc. There is nothing like a "big car" with a stick shift. My wagon with a toploader was a curiosity to many.

Thank you for the great information and experience--my Galaxie and FE education continues....

In my hotrod(extreme lightwheight) i have a stock truck 292 yblock with
a rug ag or au trans... Anyway sb trans, (asume its wide ratio) and 3.50
rear. I usualy start in second gear to damned jumpy in first to make
a smoth takeof. You have to plant the go pedal to the floor to not
jump like a frog in first.
In a 66 fairlane i had same trans 2.82ish rear 302 with heavy reworked
289hp heads 306 deg camshaft. Needed some rpm to get it rolling but not
to bad. I usualy wound it out in first and shifted to fourth gear
but it used a clutch each summer  then i had a stock 351 C 2V in the
fairlane no problem with takeof...But in Sweden we are used to 3000 pound
cars with 2 litre engines with around 100 hp so almost anything with a V8
take of like a locomotiv
