I'm very happy with my 28" tires. It had 26's on it when I bought it, and they didn't look right on the car.

Is there a way to attach an AOD to an FE? Last I knew all AOD's had a sbf bellhousing pattern.

Thanks for the advice guys. Piece of mind in worth the extra money to me, so I'll go with the race set then.

Thanks for the pictures! Yes, this is going in my Galaxie, I was leaning towards that cam to help get my DCR down to a pump gas friendly level. The primary purpose of the car will be about 2,000 miles a year of hard street driving and a few trips to the track per year. The C6 won't be staying in the car for long, as soon as funds allow (hopefully next year), I'll be doing a manual trans swap.

Hi guys,
On my upcoming 445 build, I'm leaning toward a rather aggressive solid roller cam (I'm thinking custom comp with #4877 or #4878 lobes, 260 and 266@.050). I'm also thinking of going with a set of Survival heads and T&D rockers. My question is, would a cam like this require too much spring pressure for the street T&D's? And would the Survival heads require the same machine work for the race T&D setup as the edelbrock heads do?

^ Now THAT is cool! 8)

Hey Jay

Not really looking for big numbers on this particular project, just making a general statement about the lack of HP per cubic dollar spent. Running a Supercharger on a FE and make it run on 93 isn't what I would call very reliable unless you willing to fork out $40K to $50K and I might as well put a Proline BBC in it and stomp the FE's guts out. This is probably why I am such a mod motor fan.....................For $25K I am dancing with 900 to 1000 HP motor and trans and driving it to work every day!

No I am good where I am at, I just need to ditch the whole carb thing, run the Fast 2.0 and call it good. It surely isn't going to win me any titles in the 1/4 mile...............But with the set-up I have I will surely stomp a civic or two! LOL
Right around the 500-600 hp level, mod motors are actually more expensive to build than an FE. Not only do you have to buy the forged internals, etc, you have to buy the boost on top of that; were an FE will do it naturally aspirated. Or for less money than a mod motor or an FE, build a  boosted 460 based stroker and shoot for 1500hp on pump, but that wouldn't be as cool or different as an FE.

Hey Warren, I'm registered over there, but I can't seem to post. 1964 Galaxie 500. 390 COM 3.00 rear. I've got a 445 in the planning/teardown stage if that counts. Also, I'm 23 years old, the next generation of FE enthusiast  :P

hmmm, now it is saying my 2011 HP laptop has an unsupported Internet Explorer, 6 no less

It did that to me too. If you get to the homepage, and click directly on the forum button at the top, then click on traditional hot rod engines, you can get there. I still can't seem to register though.

John Baechtel at Hot Rod Engine Tech is starting an FE build based on a 390 block.  He is looking for suggestions on the build.  He is pretty much wide open at this point.  The story is on his main page, and there is also a post on his message board under the Traditional Hot Rod Engines section. A link to the Hot Rod Engine Tech web site is below:

Hi Jay

I registered over there several days ago and my account still has not been activated. I tried to contact them  thru the "CONTACT US" at the bottom of their main page repeatedly, but it comes back with an error saying   "That CAPTCHA Code: * was incorrect Try Again".  I wonder if I am the only one having problems or are there others ?

Maybe you could give them a heads up on their site issues, since I have no way to contact them, not that I any longer have any interest to post over there anyways.

Thanks

I'm having the same issue as well.

Alright. Thanks for the info Barry.

I'm curious about how much it actually costs to crossbolt a 390 block. I always hear everyone say "it's expensive" but every build has a different definition of what expensive is. I see the caps themselves can be had for just under $400, but how much machine time is involved? I might be right on the fence of needing them for my upcoming build.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was also thinking that with the numbers I've been crunching, I was basing it on a stock deck block. This leaves the piston .015 in in the bore, with a .041 head gasket gives me a .056 quench distance. Should I tighten the quench distance up, or is it fine where it's at?

It's going to have a c6 behind it for a few years. I'd love to have a tremec, but it's going to be awhile.

Hi guys,
I'm looking to build a 445 when springtime rolls around and I'd like your opinions and advice for my combo.
My goal is to be as far north of 500 hp on 93 octane pump fuel as I can get. It will be going in my 64 Galaxie that sees about 2500 street miles per year, and 2 or 3 trips to the track.
The combo that I'm thinking so far consists of:
Stroker kit from Survival with flat tops (4cc valve reliefs)
Survival Heads, with valve job and blend
T&D rockers
Ported Performer RPM intake
MSD pro billet distributor
Roller cam

My question about the heads is, with a 2.20 intake valve, will the relatively small bore shroud the intake valve too much?

I'm open to suggestions about camshafts, both solid or hyd. roller. The cam I've got in mind is a comp solid roller that keeps me at an 8.09 DCR. Is this still a tolerable DCR for pump gas? Also how reliable is a solid roller on the street? (I'm not afraid to set lash a few times a year.) Here is a link to the cam http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=951&sb=2

Thanks for reading, you guys seem to have a ton of knowledge about all things FE, so I'm excited to hear your thoughts.
