How does this happen, it looks spotless with a 390.

Not common but possible. A local woman would bring her 5 different low milage to vehicles the shop. One was an 87 Jeep pickup with only a couple thousand miles. A 73 Thunderbird with just over 20,000. She had a low mileage 390 Javelin she brought in for stickers that I never worked on. It is the cars with torn seats, worn pedals and floor covers that claim original mileage that I find funny.

Though that is indeed possible. My 64 Fairlane has just 3800 miles. It was driven by the original old woman owner until 74 then parked in the carport. A neighbor kid bought it when he turned 16 but never did a thing with it, never drove it. It was never even transferred into his name. It sat outdoors for ten years until he gave or sold it to a buddy and then it was in a barn with the windows down so rats got in and ate the interior up. It still was in the original owners name when I happened upon it in 1990 at that farm. It sure didn't look like a 3800 mile car, I assumed 103,800. But when taking it apart the tight ball joints, crosshatching in the 170's bores, clear green tranny and diff oil and the original brake shoes with 90% left made me contact the lady whose name was on the title. She drove it every day... and lived right in the town she never drove out of. Ten years at a mile a day... still needed a lot of work, besides cutting the towers for the High Riser.

There was a one owner 69 Mach1 that sat outdoors in the grass and rotted out bad, it was low miles.

While it has a few more miles than being mentioned here, I bought my grandpas 75 Continental before he died about 18 years ago. It had 53000 when I bought it and I don't think it's over 55000 now. Later, Travis

My grandma purchased a brand new 2 dr '75 Maverick.  She looked at a Granada, but she was too short to comfortably see over the steering wheel.

I got it from her in 1997 with a grand total of 7700 miles on it.  It was your typical old ladies car.  Only left the garage to go to church on Sunday and it had rash on every corner from hitting everything in site.   :o

I always picture that insurance commercial from years back where the car side swipes the garage backing out and then backs into a tree?  Ya, that's how I picture her driving.

My frugal aunt had a Buick she bought new in '97, she died in 2000, I sold it to my sister it had less than 3000 miles on it.  it truly was the car "the little old lady drove to church on Sundays".  Guy at the bank couldn't believe it when we did the transfer paperwork...

The rash on every corner is funny! I sold my late aunts 65 Valiant for her. It was scraped up both sides and many dings on taillight rims, headlight rims and hood edge molding. Lots of dents on the front of the hood where she hit the end wall of the garage and knocked paint cans off the shelf!
Interior was like new, under 30,000 miles and never been over 50mph (despite the freeway speed limit!)

I figured i'd ask two grand as the car was still low miles... my aunt said "Nonsense! it's like a new car". So I upped it to three grand, the same as she had paid for it. I didn't realize a four door slant six Valiant was a cult favorite amongst chicks and the phone rang off the hook from six AM onward with dozens of calls before my aunt even woke up. The first girl bought it, hundreds more called for a week after.

Same with our F-350.  1993, 106K miles, looks great.  Not worth much of anything, unless you look at Hemmings or Cars.com ads lol.
