Thanks Heo for posting, I just got a chance to watch this 29 minute video of the Rouge Plant. I never tire of watching these things. I've toured the Twin Cities ( St. Paul, Minnesota ) Ford assembly plant that used to be here ( sadly now gone ) 3 times and it was always fascinating. Our plant here was literally an assembly plant though since I believe all the panels arrived pre-stamped and the engines already assembled. This video shows the steel being made and camshafts being cast. I know Rod C., who worked for Ford, has described the process, but here you can actually see the things he's mentioned, like the scrap steel being added and the guys tossing the various bags of alloy into the molten metal. The engine being assembled is an FE. Anyone who has spotted those letters/numbers written in the lifter valley of your block for piston fitting can see the process here. One thing I hadn't seen before was the hot run testing of the engine - I noticed that they used a cut away FE valve cover with the front open. The car being assembled was a '62 Fairlane so I'm assuming it was probably a '62 FE as well.

Yes i saw that cut open valvecover. Maby to
see that its oiling the rockers.
Yes the film says 1960 but fairlane is a 62
But on the other film with the flatheads
there is pre 37,37,38 and newer engines
cars is allso 37,38,and 39 so the films
is from several years
But interesting...32 different steel qualitys
in the V8 ford an 16 more in the tools to
build them.
I whish i could go back and pick the parts
I wanted 8) 8)
And the workers car park would be a gigantic
car show today :o

On a related note, here's a video I found - the day they filmed a music video at the Mustang plant! This had to have been a surreal day.

Supposedly the Music Video was not done with FoMoCo's permission.  Love the hand tools on the line
