I was wondering.....who has ports for these heads?
I just put my name on the waiting list for an iron BBM block
so it's time to start looking to get my heads done.
I picked a set up locally....at a yard sale of all places!!!

Blair Patric comes to mind,.... pro ports are kinda his thing. But I’m sure there are others who could port them.

FWIW, I am saving my pennies to buy a set of these Blair Patrick ProPort MR heads for a new project. These are the best looking "maximum effort" MR heads I have ever seen in the short time I have been an FE enthusiast.

The heads pictured above belong to Jon Pose, and are Blair Patrick pieces. Jon and I just returned this morning from a trip to Jim Morgan's place in Faulkner MD where that pair of heads on a 520 inch BBM engine with a BBM tunnelwedge and a pair of 930 cfm Holley carbs did 964 on power and 816 torque@ 6,900 rpm. Some minor carb tuning delivered those numbers and needless to say Jon was happy with the result. Blair is still at Morgan's and this morning's motor, a 430 inch, 11:1 FE with a 735 carb did 717hp@7,000rpm. Blair may weigh in on both these builds but I am not sure when. I'll get some images of Jon's motor up next.

We definitely had a good day Friday. That was the maiden voyage for that intake port. It is only 7 or 8 cfm down from my High Riser Pro Port from .350 on up to .900 lift. That 964 hp is the most I have made with a cast manifold, and surprised me a little. The heads are good, but the cam is a new unit also, and I did major work to the runners in the BBM intake. I did not touch the plenum area......only about six inches up each runner.
Maybe we can get a dyno sheet and some pics of that thing up on here.......

If I may ask....Rough idea on compression and cam in the big motor?
I was planning on doing 4.375x4.400 in my block.
ETA: What size chambers on that port job?

It's .800 lift, 15:1 c/r, heads are 60cc. I have a program that comes out 64cc, so I only had to mill them .020 to get to 60cc. That saves fit-up headaches. I think we took .015 off the manifold, and used .030 thickness gaskets.

Hi Jim, are the 930 centre squirters a custom carb? If so, who made them, if you don’t mind me asking?

I supplied the custom carbs. Booster and venturi work got the extra flow. Also converted to screw-in bleeds, etc. Carbs got the full treatment.

More dumb questions....Titanium valves? Tool steel retainers? (On the pictured heads)

Not an expert on BSFC, but I would imagine the 15:1 compression ratio has a lot to do with that.

Cobradriver......we used hollow stem steel valves from Ferrea. More durable than titanium, and with a 6800 rpm peak, it won't see more than 7500 rpm. Plenty of control there with 980 lbs open pressure.

I'm super curious about the plug wire boot contraptions on the bowl vents... Just when I thought I was pretty much a carb expert... I would not be the least bit shocked if that was an original idea from Mr. Patrick either... Still would love to know what in the world those are intended to aid... If I had to guess, has something to do with stabilizing pressure to bowls so the jets flow *more* consistently when air velocity picks up...? I can see that eliminating a few moving targets tuning wide if that's the case... If willing to answer, but maybe not on the forum... You know where to find me!

When the air gets to moving at high velocity, it can suck fuel up through the vent tubes and into the air flow. That contraption stops that from happening and still allows it to vent. Notice the holes in the cross tube.

I have a similar setup on my current combo. The car stops so well that the fuel pours out the vent tube and wreaks havoc with the idle speed. I haven't really noticed any change in the wideband readings with or without it (other than decel).
It was also pretty popular on the vintage road race cars with Holleys I worked on many years ago...

cool... thanks for sharing fellas. I'd never seen it before. I guess what is common for some remains unseen in other areas of the country... been to a lottttt of race tracks, worked on a lottttt of cars over the years. Just a new one on me.
Seems like it wouldn't be needed for dyno time if the only intended function was decel etc, but... in this case, maybe with the power these motors are making, could be for launch? Wheelstands maybe? I jumped straight to stabilizing what's going on in the bowl, based on a set of customs I did for an outboard engine with the bowl vent facing forward. Mid range would go fat no matter what I did with the air circuit. That one took forever to finally figure out.. ended up driving brass into the forward facing hole, and drilled a separate hole just behind, but laterally to external source, and away from incoming air. It worked.
I'll have to experiment with this in the future, for fun.

Did the fuel hose trick on my brother Maverick and fixed it right up , he was dumping fuel from the vent to Venturi on big wheelies over 3 ft , hasn’t bogged on a big wheelie since

Used hose a lot if times, the spark plug boots and brass tubing is just cool !
