Pre oil after sitting 4 months?
« on: October 09, 2011, 05:24:22 PM »
My engine was broken in and ran for a few months, and now the car has sat for 4 months with stabil treatment in the gas tank.
Do you guys think I should pull the distributor and pre oil it or just fire it up?

I'd pull the coil wire and crank it for 20 seconds.  Repeat 3-4 times, until you see pressure on the oil pressure gauge.  Then you should be good to go.  There is residual oil in the bearings from the first pre-oil that will protect the bearings and journals.

If you don't see oil pressure on the gauge after doing this 3-4 times, then I'd think about pulling the distributor and repeating the pre-oil.

Personally, for the few minutes it takes, I tend to pop the distributor and prime the oil pump for several minutes if the car has been sitting for more than a couple of months. Maybe overkill, but it makes me feel better.
