Couldn't find anything in the search for this subject so what is the right gauge cable for running a new starter cable from starter to front of engine then up to solenoid as I have cast long tube headers. Also what type of coating is best for this extreme heat.  I have a new starter with the post on the opposite side to keep it away from headers. Is battery cable the same gauge as starter cable?

FE Technical Forum / clutch fork anti rattle spring - HELP!
« on: April 10, 2019, 02:34:38 PM »
This is a 63 ford 390 bellhousing and I am trying to put a new spring clip on the clutch release lever, cuz the old one broke. It's been out long enough that I can't remember how it goes back together. Can anyone explain how this goes on the clutch fork?  Bellhousing is off and have new cluch fork rubber boot, throwout bearing, and spring clip.

embarassed to say the least,   Bud

What is the difference between vr-1 10w30 (VAL205) and vr-1  10w30 (822388). A big difference in price according to NAPA online. $7.00 and $4.80. Both say vr-1 racing oil.

FE Technical Forum / using restrictors in heads
« on: February 01, 2019, 01:56:25 PM »
Okay, after finding out to leave the oiling hole alone on head gasket, I should ask if I should use restrictors in the heads. Rockers and shafts are almost new and I'm using a new Melling hi volume pump. The oil pan is a new Milodon 5 qt.  If I restrict the top end, what do I use? does anyone make a restrictor for the FE head? does the hole have to be tapped or drilled for a restrictor? Saw one post that a split roll-pin was used. I would rather do this now before the heads go on so as not to contaminate the oil passages. The crank has been turned .010-.010 and new bearings so everything should be fairly tight which brings me back to the question of restictging the top end or not. Have a chrome set of "power by ford" valve covers if that matters. I trust your knowledge and that is why I am always asking questions on this site.

FE Technical Forum / Question on head gasket
« on: January 31, 2019, 05:02:14 PM »
Before I put my heads back on I was looking at my Perma-Torque head gaskets for my 67 390 and noticed the hole for the rocker arm oiling was kinda small. Does this need to be enlarged or just leave it alone and use it for a somewhat restrictor for the rockers?

« on: January 12, 2019, 09:05:05 PM »
for my 67 390 FE cuz the seal is leaking badly. I cannot to save my soul get the fitting off of it to put on the next one (it's a steel fitting). Is this fitting a 1/2 inch npt? And where can I get a brass fitting instead?  Thanking you in advance

FE Technical Forum / expansion plugs in oil galleys
« on: December 15, 2018, 06:03:23 PM »
I have a C6ME-A  390 block with a 7C29 casting date from DIF . Removed all the expansion plugs from the block to clean the oil passages.  Is it common to find a block that that is not tapped for  1/4 inch pipe plugs on the rear of the block around the cam plug. All 10 galley holes had expansion plugs. Just curious.

FE Technical Forum / aluminum water neck
« on: November 29, 2018, 08:29:44 PM »
Does anyone know where I could find an aluminum water neck for my new Edelbrock RPM intake? My old one is too far gone to put on such a pretty intake. Any cast ones that would maybe match the intake or even a chromed one. I don't have a edelbrock catalog which I thought would have arrived with the intake. Goes on my 63 1/2 Gal 500XL.  Thanks

Have a cam that came out of a 390(C6ME-A) It is not stock as I measured the lift at .295. It's in very good condition but the only ID I can find on it is a stamping on the rear of the rear journal that shows
M199M with a 143 somewhat above it. I know that's not much info but just maybe someone can identify it.  Thanks

Hi Ford fans, just wondering if there is any info out there on the steps and procedures of prepping a FE block and heads for better oiling and draining back to the pan. Have looked and done a search but not found anything. Any info or website would be a big help.  Thanks      Bud

FE Technical Forum / sorry to bother you guys again,
« on: July 28, 2018, 06:21:43 PM »
but I really need to know what kind of fastener holds the centrifugal weights in place. this is a C5AF distributor and the weights were held by a horseshoe type clip which I know is not correct. If ANYONE CAN PLEASE HELP WITH INFO ON THIS It would be appreciated. Came out of a '65 390 4bbl.  I tried a 1/8" c clamp but seems too loose, and is there a washer that goes above the weight?
