im running and old early 90s 292 comp cam hyd i think it is 565 lift and 245 at .050.the rest of my engine is newer stuf like bbm heads, rpm intake, speed pro forged pistons, msd etc.. question is,are these pretty good cams or would i be better off with a newer grind.street car with 4.11 gears c6,3500 stall, under 3000 car?

FE Technical Forum / i guess i ruined a new set of bbm heads
« on: April 21, 2018, 09:12:50 PM »
i bought a set of hs rockers and installed them on my running 428.i have a set of bbm heads on it.i wish the hs rocker arm kit came with rocker shaft bolts because i reused my stock rocker bolts and evidently they are too long because when i tightened them down they punched  holes in the intake runners of the heads, and now im having trouble with oil dripping into the heads on top of the valves in the runners.i took the intake off and found the pieces of alu that punched out.i was surprised they were only as thick as a dime.while tightening the rocker bolts i could not feel the resistance of bottoming out because of spring pressure.so now i have a new set of bbms with holes in the intake ports below the rocker bolts.can they be repaired? like i said, the metal that punched out is no thicker than a dime.i tried sealing the rocker bolts but so far their still leaking oil into the runners because its burning oil and smoking a little. any advice is welcome.

FE Technical Forum / bbm head question
« on: March 12, 2018, 01:36:26 PM »
i ordered a set of bbm heads last year and installed them on my 433.when i ordered them i told bbm tech my cam specs.im running a 565 lift cam and i noticed on the bbm site that the heads i bought were the single spring with damper setup.the bbm site said they were for 500 lift,550 max lift.will this be ok with my 565 lift cam or should i have gotten the bee hive set up good for 600 lift.im a little confused,im not a engine builder and i dont know if the 565 lift is ok since the site says 550 max. i know this is probably a dumb question but i just wanted to know for sure

FE Technical Forum / new carbs
« on: March 05, 2018, 08:39:53 PM »
i bought a new 850dp in 1984 and i used it on 2 different 390s and my new 433.it ran great all those years till i decided to replace it last summer.so i went out and bought a new 850dp,manual secondaries and manual choke.the problem is it is not as crisp as the old one.the old one even sounded better idling.is there anything i can do with this new 850 to get it to perform better,or should i get rid of it and go with something else,if so what would i want.the car has 4.11 gears and weighs less than 3000.i will buy something else if i need to,but i would also mod the new one too.the old dp is long gone so its not an option.

FE Technical Forum / scary thought,fe die?
« on: January 07, 2018, 11:51:04 AM »
i was talking to a man the other day and he told me something that kinda worried me.he said almost all fe guys are older men and that the fe after market support would dry up in a few years when us older guys die out.that hit me pretty hard because after i got to thinking about it,i could not think of any fe guys younger than me and im about to turn 55 next month.how about some input on this subject, what do you guys think?

FE Technical Forum / cold natured
« on: December 19, 2017, 07:09:01 PM »
i fired my 433 up today for the first time in 2 weeks.i know these engines are cold natured, but when i fired it up it sounded like it was only running on half the cylinders, barely could keep it going the first minute or two,but after it got up to temp it ran great.no choke on my 850.is this normal to run that crappy till heated up?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 4 speed toploader tail shaft lengths
« on: November 08, 2017, 12:34:06 PM »
i have forgotten more than i know where i have gotten older and been off the scene a while.but are there three lengths on the tail shaft? 1 mustang,2 fairlane and comet.3 galaxie,or are they just two. i had a friend tell me the mustang and 66-67 comet were the same,i told him i thought the fairlane tail shaft was longer.i dont know for sure but im getting ready to change my 428 comet back to a 4 speed, its now a c6 but it came with a 4 speed and i found a mustang big shaft, close ratio and im wondering if it will fit my 66 comet,if not could i swap the tail shaft if they are different or should i just try to find a fairlane trans?

FE Technical Forum / timing-race gas vs pump gas
« on: November 06, 2017, 06:04:20 PM »
if you took a strong fe pump gas street engine and put 100% race gas in and planned on running race gas for a while, would you add timing, take out timing,or forget it and leave it where its at.

FE Technical Forum / moisture in valve cover breather cap
« on: October 17, 2017, 02:51:07 PM »
i have moisture in my cap and a little smoke or steam coming out of my passenger side valve cover breather cap.i dont know if this is an issue,i just had the intake off and i have not changed the oil yet.i thought a little water may have drained into the engine when i removed the intake manifold. i need some opinions.
