FE Technical Forum / Performer RPM Gasket Matching
« on: August 27, 2019, 03:22:27 PM »
Jay's book says that gasket matching didn't have much affect on the Performer RPM intake, but please take a look at what I have and comment.  The gasket shown is a perfect match for my ported C6AE-R heads so do I at least blend the one tall side of the port that is a mismatch?  I seem to recall that blending the bottom of the port is not a good idea??

Private Classifieds / WTB Smog Pumps - $200
« on: November 05, 2018, 08:20:05 AM »
I restore smog pumps for show cars and need cores.  The ones I need will have a casting number on the back cover of 7801149 and will have a 3 bolt hub on the front.  These are basically 1967-1973 Ford/Lincoln/Mercury smog pumps.  Have any laying around?  I pay an average of $200 each depending on completeness and condition.  More if you also have accessory items like the brackets or hoses.

My email is jimwoods7 at outlook dot com.  And thanks for looking!

Private Classifieds / 428 "C" Block - March 1970 - needs repair
« on: November 03, 2018, 01:51:29 PM »
I have an extra Cobra Jet block that is dated March 1970.  This is a bare block with the caps...but it does have two areas where the caps bolt down into the block that are cracked.  Can be fixed but figure its best for whoever needs this, or wants this, to fix it.  Asking $500 for the block.  Offers considered.  Located in Scottsdale, Arizona area.

Additional info; block is currently .030 over and has been run before so don't assume it will stay at .030.

Email to Marcus Anghel if interested.

FE Technical Forum / 462 Stroker - Disappointed
« on: November 29, 2015, 11:04:30 AM »
So I mentioned in another thread that my 462 stroker looked strong on the dyno but isn't equally strong in the car.  It pulls strong, but I was looking for shredded tires in 1st gear with a touch of the throttle.  Maybe my expectations were too high?  This engine is in a '69 Mustang coupe with 4-speed and 3.50 Tru Trac and Polyglas tires.

This dyno run was with CJ iron exhaust manifolds to open duct and smog installed and functional.  About 515 TQ and 430 HP.

FE Technical Forum / Moonshine Festival - Dawsonville, GA

This show is always chock full of FE powered stuff, mostly '57 Fords and Galaxies.  Here are a couple of oddities though that I thought would be fun to show you.

This '58 Ford owner went the hard way on this engine swap IMO.

And a pretty cool street rod that seems "adequately" powered to me.

Private Classifieds / 1969 Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 SOLD
« on: July 30, 2013, 07:51:31 AM »
1969 Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 For Sale

Originally – 1969 Super Cobra Jet, W-code (4.30), R-code (shaker), 4-speed, Mach 1.  Built June 27, 1969 in San Jose, CA (R).  The Marti report is at the bottom of this post.

Currently – 10-second drag car, fresh 428 w/Edelbrock heads, JDC prepped Streetmaster, solid roller cam, roller rockers, dyno tested at 566 HP / 576 TQ.  Fiberglass hood and trunk lid.  Race prepped C4 automatic, CalTrac rear suspension, trunk mtd. batteries and fuel cell.  Full roll cage, race seats, line loc, race instruments, subframe connectors, special drag front tires, new rear slicks, lightweight wheels and many other trick parts.

This is an original paint California car with virtually no rust.  The complete dash and dash harness and engine feed harness have been removed, but the rest of the wiring remains.  There is no cut sheet metal except for two small notches in the shock tower reinforcements for header bolt clearance.  Fabulous foundation for a high end restoration of a desirable 4.30 gear 4-speed shaker Super Cobra Jet car.  Or race it now (you could still make it to Drag Week  :)) and restore it later.  The sound is amazing!  Come here it run!

Car is in Western NC.  Price is $28,500.  PM or email me for phone number.  Many photos here:

FE Technical Forum / Streetmaster Intake Bolts
« on: May 15, 2013, 07:40:23 PM »
So what is the trick to bolting up a Streetmaster intake?  The inner bolt holes won't accept an appropriate length bolt due to interference.  I assume I have to install studs in these locations after installation of the intake or is there another solution that I am just overlooking?

FE Technical Forum / Hooker 6114 Question
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:27:21 PM »
The application date for the popular Hooker 6114 for FE Mustangs specifically states they are for 16-bolt heads, then a footnote says "except Cobra Jet".  I sent a message to Hooker asking what this meant and the reply said that the CJ bolt pattern and port size are "different".  This makes no sense to me, and I know many are using these on CJ Mustangs with good results.

Has anyone determined the real reason for the footnote excluding Cobra Jet from the useage of the 6114 header?

FE Technical Forum / LM-2 A/F Ratio Guidance for a Rookie Please
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:56:59 AM »
I just bought an Innovate LM-2 and am playing with it on my '69 428 CJ car.  I now realize how little I know about this.  I could use some general guidance from members please.

My car has smog, which is air injection downstream of the exhaust port but upstream of my O2 sensor.  I assume I should disconnect this or it will cause the a/f to read leaner than it actually is?

Steady state cruise shows a/f around 14.2-14.5 which is close to stoichiometric but perhaps it should be much leaner at cruise?  Like 16?

I get a little "dip" at tip in where it goes momentarily lean, then shows around 13.4 during accel.  Is this normal or can it be tuned out with perhaps a power valve change or just don't worry about it?  It doesn't feel like anything driving the car - no bog.

Thanks for any suggestions!

FE Technical Forum / Crankshaft Dilemma - Opinions?
« on: December 28, 2012, 08:13:02 AM »
I am planning a street 428 stroker build.  I intended to use the Scat 4.25" crank but a recent conversation with my engine machinist revealed he strongly prefers to use Eagle.  On the FE Forum, Scat is great and Eagle is junk.  I have an Eagle stroker kit in my SBF with no issues, so I know Eagle isn't "junk", but is there enough difference to worry about?  Is this the item I should argue with him about or save that for some other component?  Is it true that both are cast the same place but Scat is finish machiined in US and Eagle is not? (my engine guy seems to think the Eagle stuff is done here, and he can actually communicate with someone at Eagle about what he wants).  He will probably also prefer the Eagle rods BTW.

I would value input from this Forum.
