Thanks all.

Turns out it doesn't appear to be an issue (the kickdown), so that's all good.

I've decided to take the plunge and order the Holley 19-350 in-tank kit, to retrofit to my tank. I've had a measure and there's enough clearance above, just.

As for the distributor, I have a new Duraspark that's been tickled with a custom recurve by Wes Adams, who recommended me the sniper kit to work with it.

I'm looking into getting a tacho / coolant temp output gauge too

Hi all.

I'm considering buying a Holley Sniper Stealth EFI master kit for my 352, which would be used again on a later (bigger) build.

However, I've seen a number of things and conflicting arguments that means I need to ask it all in one go.

1 - Can I get away with the in-line fuel pump supplied with the kit? (Guessing I'd need to bypass the stock pump afterwards if that's a yes?)
2 - I have a 3-speed MX / FX transmission (can't remember which sorry, just '4' on the door tag!), the sniper kit doesn't appear to have kickdown linkage - is there an easy / cheap way to fix this?
3 - I can't remember 3 for now!  ;D

Whatever you do, just be sure you can yank the tranny/bellhousing later w/o cutting up your exhaust system! Strategically placed bolt-up flanges are your friends!

I'll have a V Band at the bottom of the down pipes, then the mid / rear section will be removable as one unit (hence me welding them together with the little ladder bars (also to help make the system!) :)

Holy cow!  Yeah, you have plenty of parts.  My point is try not to cut too much off of the merging pipes if you are making an x-pipe. Too much loses cross sectional area.  That is what I think anyway.

paulie

Yeah, I bought a large box to cover a car or 2's worth. Plenty more than I'll need, just in case I get it wrong.

Sorry, I should add, I have a stock of bends, so an X pipe would be pretty easy to do I think. Just a case of cutting and welding 2 'U' or 'L' pipes from the box.

Hi all!

I'm just in the process of doing my own exhaust system. Something I've never done before (having to MIG it, excuse the workmanship!).

Rear section is done (nearly), one downpipe is done (from a Sanderson header) and only needs the V band welding on. Just awaiting delivery of my mini starter so I can make a start on the other downpipe.

Then, I just need to mate it all, which brings me to my question

H pipe, X pipe, or no merge at all?

As it stands it'll be on a stock 352ci, but it's being built for my future stroker motor that might get a torquestorm bolted on.

For reference, it's 2 x 3" pipes throughout.

Private Classifieds / Wanted - headers and exhaust
« on: January 28, 2020, 05:14:45 PM »
Hi all.

I'm on the hunt for a new / nearly new set of headers and exhaust for my '63 County Sedan with a 352. The exhaust can just be the downpipe from the headers so I can make the rest myself, but cash is waiting, I'd like to get the car on the road for the summer.

I'm in the UK but parts can be shipped to a forwarding address in the states. Cash waiting!

Many thanks,

Scott

Cheers for the replies chaps.

I should clarify, I'm in the UK, so getting parts is kinda a 1-shot deal, and by Country Sedan I know it's a Galaxie, don't worry, I was simply stating what it was. :D

Will look into it all soon.

FE Technical Forum / Cheap headers that fit a Country Sedan?
« on: May 21, 2019, 04:33:37 PM »
Hi all.

OK, so I've had a slight change of plan for now, as in I'm not currently going to throw a load of money at the 390 I've bought for my '63 Country Sedan (was going to do top end kit / stroker kit etc...), but I'm simply going to get the 352 in the wagon a little more 'road legal' than it is at the moment.

For this, it needs an exhaust, at the moment it's just on original headers, but I'm wanting to change them for something else that I'll eventually put on the 390 when it does eventually get transplanted. I'm looking for cheap stainless headers that'll do the job adequately enough. I don't want to spend lots, and I'll also need to make (or buy) an exhaust system.

Do you have any recommendations? As I can weld (a bit) I'm happy to potentially get the exhaust in kit form and cut / make to suit.

Thanks! (It's going in this)

As far as the E-Bok heads in there top end kits, The machine work is not the best quality but usable. Yes they really need to be checked out before running or may find the life span may not be there. There are multiple chats about this and easy to find using the search feature or even find on Youtube. With the builders here, they are bolt on with confidence. By the time you buy the E-Boks and pay someone to check them out its pretty much a wash to barry's, brent's, blair's and others pricing. Just food for thought.

You probably won't find a top end "kit" by any of the serious FE guys like you will a catalog part like the Edelbrocks. Barry, Blair, Brent, etc can all supply you with a full build kit, but it will be all stuff that will work for your build specifically and not a generic box of semi-ok parts like you get from a mail order place. Not saying Edelbrocks are terrible, but I don't like their kits.

Give a good FE builder a phone call or email and get parts in a kit or package that works well for your build. I'd stay away from the pre-boxed stuff.

This is solid advice

Duly noted. In time I'll get in touch personally. Thanks. :)

Barry also has his own FE cylinder heads, with modern combustion chambers.  You should discuss them with him.

We have done a lot of the 352s at 4.05 lately.
So many that I think my piston supplier has been surprised.
I was afraid I was doubling up on orders when I ask for 3 or 4 of something I have only sold one of in the prior year.
Lets you use all the popular heads with a CJ 2.09/1.65 valve

Hi Barry. Going by your Survival pic there I'm assuming you're at Survival? If so, great to have someone representing! Do you do a 'top end kit' as well as a stroker kit? I'm not buying straight away but it would make more sense to me to get everything posted in one go.

Yeah I've seen that, hence me asking a little above regarding top end kits. If there's a Survival version if Edelbrock's top end kit I'm listening!

Adding to that I'm looking for anything else that I might need though, even down to gaskets / bolts. For example, exhaust manifolds seem to be hard to come by, who to use?

Hi all!

Firstly, please do accept my apologies for my lack of knowledge on all things FE, I'm very new to them and relatively new to American cars having only owned them for 2 1/2 years (I'm in England). I've asked a couple of things on here, and hoping to back it up with a little more direction soon!

Further to my previous questions regarding adding boost, I think I've now decided (at least for now) that when my car finally arrives here (it's heading it's way over the Atlantic imminently) won't be getting forced induction, but will be being helped via an increase in bore and stroke to likely take it to a 425.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bore would need to be taken out to 4.05" yes?

In addition to this, I've seen various companies selling what I'd need, but I'd like to hear from those that know regarding what I should be looking at. My initial thoughts are an Edelbrock top end kit and a Survival Motorsports stroker kit, but I'm happy to listen to you all! Additionally, what else will I need? I'm not regarding the transmission / rear end at present, that's a question for another time!

If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

The car, for those who want to know -  ;D

If you're going to possibly put a blower on the motor in the future, it has fairly significant impacts on what you'd want to do with the longblock build.

Compression ratio, compression height, ring gaps, cam design, valve springs, possibly head design (more emphasis on exhaust port)....all impacted if you go forced induction.

That's kinda why I'm asking. What should I be looking for in the case of future boost? Shouldn't I just buy what I'd use for a blown motor, and run it N/A or will that have a negative impact on N/A running?

Jay Brown built a stroked 390 (445)  a few years back
In HotRod Magazine. About  500 hp 500 lbs/ft N/A
Unfortunately I cant see it anymore due to some stupid
EU dataprotection mumbo jumbo. I guess its the same for you
living in GB

Sounds impressive. I've seen a couple of video on YouTube of decent builds. Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / 352 - Upgrades etc...

OK guys, please bear with me! Trying to learn. :)

Following on from my previous 'boost' question - I'm buying a car with a 352 in it. I'm intending to pull it, get it bored to 390 and add a stroker kit, top end kit etc...with the potential to add a blower in the future.

I've got a few months before I actually get the car (I'm in the UK, car is still in America at the mo), so I've got time to think / plan / get a shopping list together and plan it all. The car I'm led to believe has a 9" with LSD (not that it matter as the moment, this is purely an engine-related question / post).

I'm hoping to get help from you knowledgeable people! Is this a viable option? It seems to me that there's a small amount of stuff available for a 352 so it looks like a natural progression. If so, what do people recommend (as in actual parts)? I've been looking for an Edelbrock 7105 intake for instance, seems the right option. There's a lot of stoker kit choice, also top end kits... Additionally, and I do apologise for my ignorance, if I'm going to send the block away for getting bored out, what diameter should I go to and what else should I be considering? (Again, not trans / chassis, that will also be in hand in the future).

If nothing else, what setup have you got and what sort of power are you getting?

Thanks!
