FE Technical Forum / Finally got some time
« on: June 08, 2023, 02:36:16 PM »
Yesterday I started stripping down the 63 body for some sealer. When I bought it the former owner had it in primer and the surface rust was starting.
Don't like rust so went to work on it.
The more I tear into this car the more amazed I am at the lack of rust.
I have the trim, front clip etc. off and all the other pieces and the only rust was a small hole where he had the trunk mounted battery and a small pinhole under the gas peddle. No rust under the trim or the bottom of the body at all.
However there is no insulation or sound deading in the car at all.
There are a few thing's that I will have to find to finish it but not much, ashtray, trans cross member. It had the heater delete in it so will install a aftermarket heat ac unit.Small stuff but it adds up.
Trim is real nice but have 2 little dings to work out but I am going to polish all of it anyway.
After 4 years I finally have a little time and am enjoying getting on it.

FE Technical Forum / Shaker scoop assembly
« on: June 05, 2023, 02:55:18 PM »
For those interested speedmaster has a repop shacker assembly [Mustang type] on their website for $495.00.
The pictures looked like stock but it does not come with the flapper valve or vacuum valve.
I paid $600 for my shaker base so it might be a good deal for those who don't mind running chinese part's.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 63 Fiberglass hood
« on: March 10, 2023, 05:05:35 PM »
Looking on the web today and found a 63 hood with the thunderbolt scoop.
My car had one on it when it was raced in the old days but when I bought it from the first owners it had a stock steel hood on it.
I have a reproduction fiberglass thunderbolt scoop but I hate the ideal of cutting a hole in the stock hood and found this hood from Kebbuck in california.
Has anyone used their product's?
Cost is $475.00 + shipping.
Thanks

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Shop floor
« on: March 03, 2023, 05:33:13 PM »
I decided to remove the wood floor on 1/2 of my shop yesterday and concrete it in.
I am getting up there in age [75] and decided I had better do it while I am still able.
I just unloaded 26 80 pound bag's of concrete and am not sure this was a good idea.
It will take about another 100 bag's or more to finish and it is a 50 foot distance from my door to where I have to install the floor.
Wish I could get a truck in there.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Going partial solar in shop
« on: December 18, 2022, 05:09:03 PM »
After considering it for a while I ordered a solar kit for my shop. I have a Generac 14KW generator for my house but the shop runs on its own power.
With the kit I ordered I can run everything in my shop except the welder's and compressor.
If I like it I can add on to the kit for 220V's later.
Cost was $1600.00 which I don't consider to bad.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Rear end question
« on: October 22, 2022, 02:09:09 PM »
I have a strange set up for my 63 and am getting ready to assemble it.
When I ordered my part's they put me on back order for my Daytona pinion yoke.
They were suppose to call me when they came back in stock but no word yet.
My question is since I have the Daytona pinion setup do I need to order a Daytona yoke to go with it.
I just can't remember as it has been year's since I have built one from scratch.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Giant bill from UPS
« on: September 29, 2022, 04:55:26 PM »
I think you guy's will like this.
I received a bill from UPS today for the large amount of $0.03.
I don't know what it cost to send out a bill by the USPS but read a few year's ago that it cost a company $8.00 to send someone a bill though the mail.
I was going to toss it but figured they would send me a new bill next month with a $25.00 late fee tacked on.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / recomendations for a mill
« on: August 15, 2022, 05:59:04 PM »
Looking to buy a small mill to fab some part's.
I was going to order one from Grizzly tool for around $2500 but they are on backorder.
Been searching all day and all I have found are the cheap low powered china mill's. Less the 1/2 HP or the $13,000+ one's.
I would like at least one with 3/4 HP or more and non plastic gear's.
Anybody have any recomendation's
I would consider a china mill but would like some real review's on the quality of any suggested.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Ford to eleminate dealership's.
« on: August 02, 2022, 12:47:48 PM »
Ford's ceo said in an interview that he has had it with dealership's adding a markup on their popular model's. He said some dealer's are adding up to $45,000 to the msrp on the new lightening and maverick's.
He said they will go to an online ordering system where everything is upfront and quick.
They have had new policy's in place where if the customer order's a car the price is locked at the time of the order but the dealer's are still charging the markup or they won't deliver the car to the customer.
Instead of hour's to buy a car you can do it in minute's and the car will be delivered direct to you.
Ford is in the process of doing the change now.
You can see the interview on utube under Ford has had it with dealership's.

FE Technical Forum / High compression ratio
« on: July 22, 2022, 01:03:57 PM »
Looks like my compression is going to be higher then I expected. I was thinking of 11.4-1 with my set up.
I did my final set up on the short block yesterday and I was finally able to measure the piston height. They stick out above the block .006.
 Cometic .040 gasket's.
Using a online caculator I come up with 12.26-1 compression ratio using the Edlebrock cc of 76 cc.
This will increase after the heads are re surfaced as they are not flat enough for me.
I have a couple cases of 105 race gas booster which will be OK for what I will be using the car for.
I was going to use Rocket fuel but the price just got to be to much.
This should hold me untill next year when my CNG conversion will be ready. I guess I will find out if everything works next year.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Moron's and nitrous don't mix
« on: July 20, 2022, 11:15:29 AM »
Looking at streetmusclemag.com just now and they show the aftermath of a nitrous bottle explosion in a Pontiac G8.
The owner had removed the burst valve on the bottle and installed a pipe plug.
Brillant move.
