Private Classifieds / Edelbrock 6005 Heads -SOLD
« on: April 09, 2017, 10:04:18 PM »
Up for sale is a set of used Edelbrock 6005s. These have a few hundred street miles on them. I have not run them, but purchased them from a friend who took them off a running motor. When I got the heads, they had a decent set of springs/retainers/keepers that matched my cam better that was in my car at the time, so I swapped out my old ones for the ones on these heads. The current springs on these heads I would NOT run. I put them on to make them complete. They checked at around 80-90 on the seat and about 215-225 open at .560" lift. The drainbacks I enlarged to 1/2" and radiused, but did not touch the intake side yet. The oil feed slot has been radiused at the edge leading into the head bolt hole on each. No porting on intake or exhaust. Minor pitting at a couple coolant ports on intake side. Should seal fine w/small dab of rtv.

Price is $975 free shipping within US

FE Technical Forum / Lash Recommendation
« on: August 14, 2016, 11:16:28 AM »
After installing my new rocker setup, I experienced a few collapsed hyd. lifters. :( So now, the plan is to ditch them for some solids. :)

This is on a factory iron block and factory iron heads.

Current cam specs:

Wolverine Blue Racer hyd. flat tappet
Lift- .536int .562exh
Advertised duration- 290°int 300°exh
Duration @.050- 224°int 234°exh
LSA- 110°
ICL- 105°

Current valve spring pressure is about 130-135lbs on the seat and 360ish open.

What do you think I should run for lash cold, and/or hot? Thanks.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Aftermath
« on: July 17, 2016, 07:22:08 PM »
So I drove my car to the Meltdown Drags at Byron IL yesterday and raced it. I entered in the S/S class, so I could be with all the other FE Fairlanes and Galaxies. Had a great time and met a lot of nice guys, both on and off the forum. The car ran strong all day. I was fighting traction problems the whole day, otherwise car had great speed.

I was on my way home and not quite halfway when I heard a noise. It was a loud popping sound on accel. I thought at first that one of the header tubes where it bolts together, had come apart. I quickly pulled off to the nearest side road, which luckily was a few hundred feet and abandoned. I couldn't tell exactly what it was at first so I had dad sit in the car and start it while I listened. It was coming from the middle of the engine, at the carburetor. I pulled the air cleaner off and we restarted it. Sure enough, it was popping right out the carb. I thought maybe ignition, so I pulled the cap and the rotor and cap all looked fine. Next, I yanked the dist. and looked at the gear to see if the roll pin sheared. Nope. Then, I stabbed it back in and waited for a friend to give us a tow. It didn't seem like bottom end at all, so I figured probably valvetrain.

Today, I pulled the valvecovers off and saw the problem.

Snapped no.2 exh. rocker (These are and old set of Pioneers)

The piece of rocker with adjuster and lash cap were sitting snug as a bug between the valvsprings.

Here's one more.

Then, I saw some more disturbing news.

Hard to see, but the lifter had gotten tossed.

I tried to get a borescope down in to see, but not enough room with this intake ( Performer RPM) and a splash tray. Looks like I will be pullin the intake back off that I just installed a few weeks ago. >:( If the lifter is beaten up at all, it will be a good excuse to throw in some solids to pick up a little more rpm.

But hey, if parts ain't flyin, you ain't tryin!  :)

FE Technical Forum / PRW Main Girdle
« on: March 19, 2016, 06:12:18 PM »
Just spotted this new main girdle from PRW. It only ties the first four mains together, no oil pump mount, pan rail, or #5 main. I think I like the look of Tim's girdle much more.

Good Deals! / FE Power Intake Adapter
« on: January 12, 2016, 07:38:59 PM »
Just received my new FE Power LLC intake adapter today from cjshaker. Doug was a pleasure to do business with. I couldn't be more pleased with the sale/product. Great guy to deal with.

Jay, I'm sorry for the indirect purchase of one of your adapters, but I couldn't afford one until recently. When I saw Doug posted one in the classifieds, I had to swipe it up. Great looking product Jay. Can't wait to use it.
