Best way to remove #3 cap after end play check?
« on: October 26, 2019, 11:11:48 AM »
I checked my crank end play but my #3 cap won't easily come off. I hate to use the crank to pull up and loosen the cap. With .006 end play I can't get it to wiggle much. What is a safe way to pull the cap?

Thanks!

With the cap bolts still in the cap but not threaded into the block, get a soft hammer or something like a wood block and tap the cap bolt perpendicular to the crankshaft..in other words;  tap the bolt from the side to lift one side of the cap off the seat.  If you're using studs, then remove the studs, then you just tap the cap itself from the side.
