Hurst Shifter Fitment for Galaxie
« on: April 18, 2021, 10:10:25 PM »
I'm researching replacing the lackluster Ford shifter for my new toploader conversion in my 66 Galaxie. I have the HEH-CG and the car is equipped with a console. Has anyone used a non-console shifter and a bolt-on adapter allowing the use of the OEM stick (see below) to retain the console?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-1962-67-Shift-Lever-Mount-Adapter-Ford-Handle-Hurst-Shifter-Fairlane-Galaxie/324542247235

I'm looking at a 391-6848 shifter assembly with a 373-3167 install kit. These p/n's are said to be for 64-65 non-console cars with type 431 toploader (same as 66).

Does anyone know if this will work? If not, does anyone have experience finding something that does?

Thanks for any and all input.

My 63 galaxie has no console and I adapted the stock shifter tower to the hurst shifter. I made an adapter similar to what you posted. It fit inside the rubber boot and looks totally stock. I`m not sure how it would work with a console.

Yeah, David Kee is one of the options. The kit they show has the non-console stick. Perhaps I ought to call them to see if the OEM stick adapter listed above will work with their kit on a console. I would think it ought to work, I'm just hoping to find someone here who has done the same thing.
