The kickdown on a ‘67-‘68 Mustang/Cougar works off the accelerator pedal rod on the firewall. The automatic transmission cars have an extra arm that extends down on the firewall side, and then a short cable that attaches to the kickdown arm on the transmission. It doesn’t attach to the carbs. Makes it real easy to convert to a Ford multi-carb intake. Diagram from the Ford Parts Book.
I have a 67 GT500 with a 3/8 custom bent fuel line that clears the power steering pump and also have the inline 427 canister fuel filter. Would you like a picture posted?
